Hi
Has anyone measured the current drain on their K3 when it is Off ? I have measured 7mA. Is this typical ? The stand-by current of the K3 varies considerably depending on how long the power has been disconnected before the measurement is made. I measured the current of my K3 after the power had been disconnected for about six hours and the current was 15mA as measured on a good quality moving-coil (d'Arsonval) type of meter. Having used my K3 and then switched off, the current was 65mA and then reduced slowly. I can only assume that the variation is due to internal circuits (capacitors, etc) being recharged after the POWER button switches the K3 off. 73 -- David G4DMP/G3KEP Leeds, UK ------ _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Looks like the power switch is just a button from the 12V that is divided
and dumped into one of the main PIC's so you're going to have the pic at least partially awake to be able to respond to that... That's going to require a bit of sipping on the rail. -----Original Message----- From: [hidden email] [mailto:[hidden email]] On Behalf Of David Ferrington, M0XDF Sent: Monday, February 11, 2008 4:47 AM To: [hidden email]; Crafters Subject: Re: [Elecraft] Quiescent current drain K3 21mA On 11/2/08 11:35, "[hidden email]" <[hidden email]> sent: > Hi > Has anyone measured the current drain on their K3 when it is > Off ? > > I have measured 7mA. > > Is this typical ? > > > Bob ZD8RH > _______________________________________________ > Elecraft mailing list > Post to: [hidden email] > You must be a subscriber to post to the list. > Subscriber Info (Addr. Back in 2001, I made a mechanical rotary to linear, FCC part 15 radio controlled remote button pusher for my wife's coffee maker because that blasted machine didn't have a real power switch: had it, I could have just used an off-the-shelf mains remote switch, moot now, because she has an esspresso maker - coffee on demand. Every so often, I have a cup. What were they thinking? Long live the K2. Bob ZD8RH _______________________________________________ It's probably a moot point anyway, at least in 6 land. The loonies inn Sacto are now promoting the power utilities having remote wired control of all your home electronics systems so they can kill your power if you need to cool off on a hot day or keep your clock in the microwave running. Maybe most of you are old enough to remember how they were so anxious to ram the "all electric" home down our throats - man what a dismall failure that was. Now it's ethanol with 1/30th the efficiency of gasoline (at the same price?). Since I'm into farming, I can tell you what it's going to do to the price of food from LA taco shells to Brazilian Beef. Oh well - pardon my rant for the month! back to my all solar station work. Al WA6VNN **************The year's hottest artists on the red carpet at the Grammy Awards. Go to AOL Music.
