I am building the RPC2. The instructions for installing resistor network
RP2 (47K) says to orient the network with pin 1 (black dot) toward Pin 1 of the PCB outline. I cannot find a black dot on the component nor any other indication of a preferred end. Anyone know what I am, missing? Is the component, in fact, symmetrical so orientation doesn't matter? The instruction for RP1 make the point that it is symmetrical. The instruction for RP2 is very specific about requiring the correct orientation. Thanks in advance. 73 de Brian W3BW *Brian F. There are no distinguishing marks or differences in pin cross-section. However, my VOM shows that one end, which I have declared to be pin 1, measures 47K ohms to every other pin.
I probably should have been smart enough to work that out myself. Thanks for your help! 73 de Brian -- 70 is the new 40. Brian F. Brian,
If you cannot locate the pin 1 designation on the silkscreen, then look at the solder pads. In most cases, the solder pads are rectangular, except for pin 1 which is usually round. There are some instances where most of the solder pads are round, but in that case, pin 1 is rectangular or square. On the component, the dot may be any color - usually the same color as the value marking. If you hold the R-Pak wih the pins down and the value designation facing you, pin 1 is normally on the left. The color of the dot can change from manufacturer to manufacturer, and even from time to time with the same manufacturer. Yes, it was black when the manual was written. 73, Don W3FPR On 6/21/2013 6:04 PM, Brian F. Wruble wrote: > I am building the RPC2.
