I just retired my 2000 vintage shack computer and the new one doesn't
have a serial port. Is there a list somewhere of model numbers for USB to RS232 converters that will play nice with both K2 and N1MM Logger under Win10? Now that I blew the big bucks on the computer I'd like to save a few on the converter, without wasting any on one that won't work. Thanks in advance for the info. 73, --Lenny W2BVH ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to [hidden email] |

Lenny,
That is not a place to pinch pennies. Get a good one with the FTDI chipset, or order the one from Elecraft. 73, Don W3FPR On 11/20/2016 4:23 PM, w2bvh wrote: > I just retired my 2000 vintage shack computer and the new one doesn't > have a serial port. > > Is there a list somewhere of model numbers for USB to RS232 converters > that will play nice with both K2 and N1MM Logger under Win10? > > Now that I blew the big bucks on the computer I'd like to save a few on > the converter, without wasting any on one that won't work. ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to [hidden email] |

We use only these in our professional world as they also Com Retention.
Which means that once you set the com port number, it will never change regardless of which USB port you plug it into. https://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-Serial-Adapter-Retention-ICUSB2321F/dp/B004ZMYTYC/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1479844052&sr=1-1&keywords=startech+ftdi Mike va3mw On Tue, Nov 22, 2016 at 2:42 PM, Wayne Carlson, K2DT <[hidden email]> wrote: > I have been using this adapter with my K3, Windows 10 and N1MM+ as well as > Ham Radio Deluxe. > > http://amzn.to/2gdeg57 > > 73, Wayne K2DT > > -----Original Message----- > From: w2bvh [mailto:[hidden email]] > Sent: Sunday, November 20, 2016 2:23 PM > To: [hidden email] > Subject: [Elecraft] RS232 to USB adapter for K2 > > I just retired my 2000 vintage shack computer and the new one doesn't have > a serial port. > > Is there a list somewhere of model numbers for USB to RS232 converters > that will play nice with both K2 and N1MM Logger under Win10? > > Now that I blew the big bucks on the computer I'd like to save a few on > the converter, without wasting any on one that won't work. > > Thanks in advance for the info. > > 73, > > --Lenny W2BVH > > > > ______________________________________________________________ > Elecraft mailing list > Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft > Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm > Post: mailto:[hidden email] > > This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net > Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html > Message delivered to [hidden email] > Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to [hidden email] |

If you're handy with a soldering iron, these FTDI USB to RS-232 "wire end" cables work well:
http://www.ftdichip.com/Support/Documents/DataSheets/Cables/DS_USB_RS232_CABLES.pdf The cable is a USB plug / converter at one end and "bare wires" at the other end. You will need to solder on a connector that fits your rig. Given that the K2 I/O connector is not standard, I would only connect pins 2, 3 and 5 on the mating connector.
