RST Reports

n6fb
Interesting to see several posts on this subject.  My input:  Why, in all contests including Marathon and BW, do we hear nothing but 599???  I would appreciate honest reports, so I know the condition of the band, and the most favorable directions for picking up zones, etc.  If we are not going to give real reports- not pre-programmed into a CW memory-  why don't we just eliminate them altogether as part of the exchange?

Actually I believe that has been under discussion in the contest community
for quite a long time. Just like the DX pileup where you are supposed to
copy your signal report for a "good" contact, the same is supposed to be
used in contests. Since it is always 599, I agree, it should be removed as
part of the exchange in both contests and DXing but I do believe the powers
that be that run the various contests and DX awards are stuck in the past
and think it should always be a requirement. Nostalgia is such a wonderful
thing.

Nostalgia isn't what it used to be. I can remember when nostalgia was
much better than it is nowadays.
