New K3 user -- it boots up in transmit if the RS232 attached laptop has not
been booted up first . And no amount of button pushing that I have found will take it out of transmit. (other than power off - but back on and still in transmit) What do I have set wrong ??? This is a real RS232 not a USB-RS232 dongle. All works fine if computer is booted up first - communicates with N1MM etc etc Hank K7HP ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

Hi Hank,
That is a standard problem with RS232 ports when they have not been powered up before the K3. One solution is to go into your CW WGHT menu and tap the 4 key to select VOX AUTOOFF. This takes the K3 out of VOX mode when you turn the K3 off so when you turn it on again it can't be keyed, either by the internal keyer, the back panel KEY IN or the RTS/DTR signals (the culprits) in the RS232 interface. Then, after you power up the computer you can hold VOX to be able to send or transmit using VOX. The K3 will display VOX=OFF the first time you try to send without re-enabling VOX. I often program the power-on banner (using the K3 utility) to display VOX OFF. It is controlled by a menu entry CONFIG:RS-232, and there are several choices including turning it off. Turn them off in the menu and your problem should go away. I think you have to have CONFIG:TECH MD set to ON to see the RS-232 menu entry. 73, Fred K6DGW - Northern California Contest Club - CU in the 2013 Cal QSO Party 5-6 Oct 2013 - www.cqp.org ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

Actually it's "CONFIG:PTT-KEY", and TECH MD is not required. 73, ~iain / N6ML ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |
