Re: K3 transmitt filter

KD8NNU
If I set up my transmitt filter to use the 2.1 8 pole, would this create
any problems.  I am wondering if this would tighten the signal to
improve my TX as I am running bearfoot.

Thanks
Don

Re: K3 transmitt filter

Dick Dievendorff
Tx Filter for SSB and CW and Data must be 2.7 to 2.8 kHz. Better to use TX EQ to shape your Tx audio.

Hi Dick

I was not thinking about shaping but reducing the bandwith to
concentrate the transmitt energy.  Kind of like narrow filters for CW.

I am still new to this hobby and it was just an idea that I had.   Maybe
when I finish going thru the extra study guide over the holidays I will
know the theory if this was a bad random thought.

Thanks
Don

Limiting the audio bandwidth via EQ will also limit the transmit bandwidth and accomplish what you are trying to do.

Hi Barry

Do you have an recommendations for setttings when you want to
concentrate the signal for tough band conditions or dx.

Thanks
Don

You can reduce the bandwidth by cutting lows and/or highs with TX EQ. The K3 firmware expects a 2.7 to 2.8 kHz Tx filter, and will probably display an ERR TXF error if you select another.
Your overall objective is fine, I do this by cutting the bottom two audio TX EQ bands to their lowest value. These bands don't help intelligibility of my voice, but they do pick up the fan in my tube amp.

Try cutting the lower 2 or lower 3 bands of TX EQ.

TXEQ will do exactly that.  Go through the archives to see my
recommended settings for common mics.

Thanks for all the guidance gents.  I just took the two lowest
frequiences to minimum for a test and wow what a difference in getting
heard in pileups and bearfoot.

I will have to spend time in working thru the best settings for me and
there are archives that I have been pointed too to read up on.

Again thanks for all the help.

I give up on the archive search, I never find what I am looking for in
searches.
