Hi,
I have KX3 (#29). Holding NR does not turns on noise reduction and also its setting; only displays TBD. What is TBD? I couldn’t find any explanation in the Owner’s Manual. Can someone explain me how I can I use NR future with my KX3? Thanks & 73. Hi Ruchan, according to the Errata document, there are a few features that
are not implemented in the KX3. One of these is Noise Reduction. TBD stands for "to be determined". This document is located here: http://www.elecraft.com/K2_Manual_Download_Page.htm#KX3 I cannot tell you when this function will be implemented. 73 Jay On Fri, May 25, 2012 at 3:15 PM, ta2ah <[hidden email]> wrote: > Hi, > I have KX3 (#29). Well, the "Errata sheet" on the web site was updated on May 10th. It states
that the NR as well as a few others are described in the manual but not implemented as yet. "TBD" is the usual To Be Determined. How up-to-date is you firmware? TBD...acronym from "to be deremined" I think, check if you have latest firmware loaded on it

My KX3 s/n 125 was delivered with fw 0.99 and dsp 0.85 … the accompanying
errata sheet stated that even though they are mentioned in the manual, NR, Auto-notch, ESSB, CW transmit in SSB mode, and DVR message record/play are not yet implemented. In addition, NB is also non-functional on my radio …. I don’t get the TBD message when I switch it on like I do with NR … the NB icon does appear on the screen when I switch it on … but it’s not working and the encoder that’s supposed to control NB levels remains on either AF or RF gain… So I suspect we just need to be patient… Don, N5LZ ----- Original Message ----- From: "ta2ah" <[hidden email]> To: <[hidden email]> Sent: Friday, May 25, 2012 1:15 PM Subject: Re: [Elecraft] KX3 - Noise Reduction > Hi, > I have KX3 (#29). I should clarify my previous post regarding the noise blanker on my KX3
sn/125 .... NB does switch on and off, and does have a favorable effect on line noise, etc., but I am unable to vary its level with the encoder as described in the manual..... when NB is switched on the encoder will only toggle between AFgain, RF gain, and Monitor level. I believe the Noise Blanker is still under development at this time. It can
be turned on/off, but not adjusted. I believe it was mentioned in one of the older manual erratas, but was dropped from the latest one. I also did not see it mentioned in the firmware release notes, but I do recall that it is a work in progress. 73, Bruce, N1RX > I should clarify my previous post regarding the noise blanker on my KX3 > sn/125 .... Since I was a kid in the 60s TBD has meant "To Be Developed", particularly in the military. Never heard it as "to be done" but I suppose there are always regional differences.

A silly thing to debate -- but, it has always meant "To Be Done". In fact, I have never known any other definition in the world of computer programming where it is often used as a comment to a section of code. So, at least for programming, To Be Done is it. Always has been since I started programming in 1965 (and, I am still programming and I still put TBD in code comments every now and then).
But, a slight comment nod to Ron (AC7AC). I think that TBD is more accurately called an "initialism" and not an acronym. An acronym is a word formed by letters of a phrase or sentence such as sonar or radar. Thus, an acronym can be pronounced and used as a word. An initialism is a set of letters that are usually not pronounced or they receive a pronunciation from common practice. For example, CEO, HTML, and SQL are all initialisms. And, SQL has a common practice of pronunciation of Sequel although technically that is not correct and I believe the SQL standard stipulates this. Sequel is actually the name of a similar language developed by IBM that preceded SQL. Enough debate there is a CW contest to going on. 73, phil, K7PEH On May 25, 2012, at 7:46 PM, Bill Tubbs wrote: > Since I was a kid in the 60s TBD has meant "To Be Developed", particularly in the military. Not wanting to add to the noise on the definition of "TBD", but I thought I would share my experience on this one.
I spent more than a few years in the U.S. government and worked on a few design teams...and to us in government and the contractors that worked for us "TBD" meant "to be determined" on all of our design programs. So now that I have just added to the confusion I will say good night Gracie. 73, Joe W2KJ ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

Okay, you can have "to be done.". I have to add "to be determined" to my "to be developed" which is in all the military planning manuals I have (and have read). I can't seem to find "to be done" as a common initialism, even on a routine internet search, but if you've used it then it must be ok ;-)
Yep, silly topic to continue. Hey, how 'bout those KX3s?! In my more than thirty years of program management and contract work in industry it always meant either "to be determined" or "to be defined". A little Google searching (use the keywords "acronym TBD") shows "to be determined" as the dominant interpretation: http://www.abbreviations.com/TBD http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_does_the_acronym_TBD_mean http://www.ask.com/questions-about/What-Does-TBD-Means http://www.acronymfinder.com/Military-and-Government/TBD.html http://www.acronymfinder.com/TBD.html 73, Dave AB7E On 5/26/2012 12:13 AM, Bill Tubbs wrote: > Okay, you can have "to be done.". Especially silly since if you actually read the erratum:
