If you come up with a working macro for this one, please make sure it gets posted to the reflector. I haven't been successful with it either. The split, up 2 on and off works just fine, but trying to get dual watch going under the same conditions here has met with the same failure you're reporting. Got tired of banging my head on it last night and ran off to work TX5K on 160. The "SB" in the macro should be "SB1" to turn dual watch on, and "SB0"
to turn it off. Did you try that? I'll try it, too. I have been using my KX3 with digital software and seem to have some odd behavior using the PBT. I have it set to do upper cutoff/lower cutoff on USB or LSB and am watching the received display on the waterfall. As expected, the upper cutoff in the noise follows the cutoff displayed on the screen, up to a point.
However, if I lower the cutoff below 2.35 kHz, there is an additional dead zone (no noise on the display) from 1.4 kHz to 1.6 kHz. The same thing happens on LSU at 2.45 kHz. This appears no matter what band I am on, so I assume it is something in the DSP software. No such dead zone appears if I raise the lower cutoff. I am using MCU 1.36 and DSP 1.05. Has anyone else observed this? Hi Dana,
As I understand it, the IQ output from the KX3 is before the "roofing filter and DSP. Thus any bandwidth settings you have on the KX3 should not have any effect on the IQ output. You did not mention what particular program you are using on your computer. If you are exchanging data between the KX3 and that program, I would suggest you disconnect the cable that allows that and see what happens. It could be that the issue lies in the program and not the KX3. 73 - Mike WA8BXN -------Original Message------- From: Dana Browne AD5VC Date: 3/4/2013 10:46:52 PM To: Elecraft Mailing List Subject: [Elecraft] KX3 PBT on SSB I have been using my KX3 with digital software and seem to have some odd behavior using the PBT. Dana,
You are seeing the effect of the switch from "phasing" reception mode to "Weaver" reception mode. Weaver mode is used when an aggressive SSB bandwidth is selected to improve opposite sideband rejection at the expense of some additional in-the-passband distortion. 73, Lyle KK7P > I have been using my KX3 with digital software and seem to have some odd behavior using the PBT... > > However, if I lower the cutoff below 2.35 kHz, there is an additional dead zone (no noise on the display) from 1.4 kHz to 1.6 kHz... ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

Dana,
That is a good reason to use DATA A mode instead of SSB. 73, Don W3FPR On 3/4/2013 10:46 PM, Dana Browne AD5VC wrote: > I have been using my KX3 with digital software and seem to have some odd behavior using the PBT. Hi Dana,
The 1500 Hz hole in SSB mode is an artifact of Weaver Demodulation. Looking at the KX3 Firmware Information document, MCU 00.77, DSP 00.74, 3-6-2012: IF the KXFL3 is installed, Weaver demodulation is enabled when HI-CUT is below 2.4 kHz. I am simply taking the headphone audio output (not the I/Q output) and running it into Digipan or Fldigi. This radio is just the stock radio with no added KXFL3 filter. I just wanted to experiment with sound card audio on the KX3 and used the method that has worked with other radios.
I had not heard of the other demodulation scheme before. I guess I have some more reading to do. I will try the Data A mode. Thanks for the feedback, folks.
