Anybody else having difficulty with this firmware upgrade? the utility installed correctly With the DL switch set I can query the KRC2 and get the following response ;KR00;KR73;KRV;KRV KRC2 V1.0; when I try to upload the firmware I get an error after which time I have to power cycle the krc2 before it will respond to queries again KRC failed to reply check KRC2 power, DL switch RS232 cable and com port ;KR00;KR73;KRU; the KRC2 indicator led flashes about 1 per second I am running windows 2000 on a fairly modern PC and the com port is a real hardware one (not a USB adapter) I have tried with the krc2 powered by the K2 and with the KRC2 powered directly with no K2 connected. any Ideas? -- Brendan Minish Ei6IZ -- Brendan EI6IZ -- Brendan EI6IZ _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Hi Brendan,
A couple of questions: 1. Were you using the new V1.2 download hex files from the web page? If not, and you were using earlier ones sent out by Jack, they will have too many records and can cause this error. (If the earlier hex files, with too many records, were sent by a dumb terminal program this error was masked since the terminal program does not look for a handshake response from the KRC2 and always follows the last regular data record with a termination record that resets the KRC2.) 2. The blinking LED indicates a bad record was received by the KRC2. Did you try repeating the download after restarting the KRC2? 3. If you restart the KRC2 and query the version number now, what version do you get? 73, Eric WA6HHQ ---- Brendan Minish wrote: > Anybody else having difficulty with this firmware upgrade? > > the utility installed correctly > With the DL switch set I can query the KRC2 and get the following response > ;KR00;KR73;KRV;KRV KRC2 V1.0; > > when I try to upload the firmware I get an error after which time I have > to power cycle the krc2 before it will respond to queries again > > KRC failed to reply check KRC2 power, DL switch RS232 cable and com port > ;KR00;KR73;KRU; the KRC2 indicator led flashes about 1 per second > > I am running windows 2000 on a fairly modern PC and the com port is a real > hardware one (not a USB adapter) > I have tried with the krc2 powered by the K2 and with the KRC2 powered > directly with no K2 connected. > > any Ideas? > -- > Brendan Minish Ei6IZ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. I have two KRC2s, and had similar problem with both. Could not get
either to report fw rev, and when trying to download I would get a "no response" error. The fw that was in both of them was 1.1D5 . I used HyperTerm to download, and everything worked fine. On one of the units I had to put it into download mode manually with the commands. The other one went right into download mode when I flipped the switch and power cycled. Now that I have upgraded them, I can get the download utility to get a response to the Get F/W Rev. button, but I still get "KRC2 Failed to reply: " error when trying to download. When I initially press the Download button, I see the commands sent on the screen, and the KRC2 starts flashing the LED. So it seems like it's ready. Maybe there is a timeout loop too short? The message comes up pretty quickly. These are both connected to a Win98 machine with real serial ports.
