I just downloaded 4.51 and before I start messing around with changing settings can anyone recommend a good starting point for general use?

I can't give you an answer to that but you probably want to stay away
from THR=20 because at that level the SLP acts like SLP=15. Here are some plots that I made showing the interaction between THR and SLP. http://www.ke7x.com/home/miscellaneous-k3-information/agc-4-51 I think what you will find is that the optimum settings for THR and SLP like those for the NR and NB, depend on conditions at the time and what you are trying to do. Looking at Fred's graphic, I've chosen AGC SLP 004 and AGC THR 016. Last night I ran across the 6O0CW pileup on 40m CW and after opening up the passband, it seemed as though the signal handling was very good. I had not spent any time listening to pileups before, it wasn't an A/B test. My volume control now hovers around 8 to 9 O'clock rather than the 10 to 11 O'clock as before for a comfortable level. With these settings loud signals "sound" louder. I just loaded the new FW late last night and will need to spend more time with it, but I am pleased so far. Thanks to the Elecraft crew for this update. 73, de Nate, N0NB >> -- "The optimist proclaims that we live in the best of all possible worlds. The pessimist fears this is true." Hi Bill,
It all depends upon the range of loudness range you want your ears to tolerate. I did some plots (SLOPE=12) for THR =10, 12, 13. I used the K3 S meter high resolution readout, the K3 dBV readout and a variable output signal generator. The RF gain calibration and Smeter calibration were done first using an XG2. With a THR of 13, I get about a 40db change from the min detectable signal and S9+50db. The AGC kicks in at about S6-7 with these settings. Lower values of THR give lower S meter values of AGC activation and less audio range. The starting values were really obtained by what sounded good. The data collection was done after. So ears work as a way to set these parameters. 73 de Brian/K3KO On 5/13/2012 6:01 PM, NZ0T wrote: > I just downloaded 4.51 and before I start messing around with changing > settings can anyone recommend a good starting point for general use? > > 73 Bill NZ0T > > -- > View this message in context: http://elecraft.365791.n2.nabble.com/Recommended-AGC-settings-for-4-51-tp7555513.html > Sent from the Elecraft mailing list archive at Nabble.com. > ______________________________________________________________ > Elecraft mailing list > Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft > Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm > Post: mailto:[hidden email] > > This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net > Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html > > > ----- > No virus found in this message. > Checked by AVG - www.avg.com > Version: 2012.0.2171 / Virus Database: 2425/4997 - Release Date: 05/13/12 > > > ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |
