I noticed that when I went to AM-S (AM Sync, AutoTracking), that the frequency showed:
10.000.010 So, I figure that the Reference Oscillator was off a bit. So I tweeked the oscillator slightly until the frequency showed 10.000.000 when I when out of the Config Menu. Is there anything wrong with this logic? I couldn't seem to hear beat oscillator when I get close to the 10 Mhz signal to adjust it by the manual. Mike |
When you put the rig in AM Sync the rig will follow any changes in the received signal to "Sync" with it. You will also notice that you are actually on SSB in this mode. What you saw was normal. I hope you remember what the original setting of the Ref Osc was. The manual has a good description of how AM Sync works. 73, Tom Childers Radio Amateur N5GE Licensed since 1976 QCWA Life Member 35102 ARRL Life Member Retired Professional C# Software developer http://www.n5ge.net On Sun, 30 Jan 2011 14:12:42 -0800 (PST), w0ih <[hidden email]> wrote: > >I noticed that when I went to AM-S (AM Sync, AutoTracking), that the >frequency showed: > 10.000.010 > >So, I figure that the Reference Oscillator was off a bit. Mike,
The thing that is wrong with that logic is that AM-S has an "AFC" associated with it (capture range). So the frequency that AM-S can capture will not necessarily show the actual carrier frequency. If you cannot determine the beat frequency, I would suggest you first use an audio spectrum analyzer like Spectrogram (download at www.n0ss.net) or SpectrumLab in SSB mode to observe the tones transmitted by WWV - 500 Hz and 600 Hz on alternate minutes except for silent minutes and one minute of each hour when 440 Hz is transmitted (the one second tone at each minute is 1000 Hz). Once you get the frequency close to correct using the above method, then try the "beat note" method in the manual - you should be close enough to hear the beat in CW mode - just adjust until the "wow-wow" tone is as slow as you can get it. 73, Don W3FPR On 1/30/2011 5:12 PM, w0ih wrote: > I noticed that when I went to AM-S (AM Sync, AutoTracking), that the > frequency showed: > 10.000.010 > > So, I figure that the Reference Oscillator was off a bit.
