Silly question about DVK3

Julius Fazekas n2wn
OK, used my DVK for the first time, pretty simple to record and use BUT, I couldn't figure out how to stop a message. This may not be possible.

I use N1MM and ESC has been effective with recordings on the computer, but doesn't stop the DVK. I didn't notice anything in the instructions about a manual stop from one of the K3 buttons.

Can this be done, and if so, how?

Sounds great and GREEEEEAT to have 10m open!

Hi Julius,

first thanks for calling me on 10 m on Saturday, our QSO and the points were
much appreciated. ;-))

Concerning your question: If you configure "Radio PTT via command" in the
COM port settings aborting with the ESC key should work.

Besides this you can stop the DVK output on the transceiver itself by either
pressing PTT (microphone or foot-switch) or by pressing the REC button (just
a tap).

Have fun! 73, Olli - DH8BQA

Re: Silly question about DVK3

Julius Fazekas n2wn
Hi Olli,

What an opening eh?! It was so nice to work so many folks on the band, possibly more than the last five added together hihi

Thanks for the suggestions, I don't do a lot of SSB, but figured there had to be a way to make it "behave". I'll try all out and should be a little less clumsy the next go 'round.

Thanks for the QSO and look forward to working you again soon. Hope to put in more time in the CW contest.

Cheers,
Julius

anyone uses the HC6

Dirk Reich
Hello! I hope I do all right here, this is my first try in a mail-list.

Anyone uses the HC6 Heil Headset with the K3?

I use it since a few weeks. And the modulation is not perfect.

What are your settings for it? I know that the EQ setting isnt the same for everyone.
But I get a way to try...

Hi Olli,

Both of your methods work, thanks...

Still am unable to get the ESC key to stop a message, even after trying different settings, but placing a "-" on a function key seems to do the trick.

Iain MacDonnell - N6ML-2
Unfortunately they changed N1MM Logger such that it no longer
generates an "RX;" command when Escape is pressed, even when "PTT via
radio command" is enabled. You can program one of the F-keys to send
the "RX;" command instead.... at least for now - hopefully we can come
up with a solution to make the Escape key work again, as that's the
most intuitive method, IMO...

Hi Julius,

I just started using the DVR3 here but I found a way to stop the message. I use WriteLog and programmed one of the function keys to activate the K3's REC button. This is the same thing you would do if running the messages from the K3 front panel. It's not the ESC key I am accustomed to but it does the trick for a SSB contest.

Hi Pat,

Wound up using the same trick... Evidently N1MM use to be able to do it with the ESC key, but somewhere along the line the code was changed. I really need to get a new soundcard, so I can have "robo-voice" hihi

Hope you're doing well up there in the North. Seems like a lot of snow around, and we've still got trees with green leaves! Go figure.

GL in SSPhone, if you're playing and definitely in CQWW, which should be a real riot!

Pat, you referred to using WriteLog to control the KDVR3. I was not aware
that capability was incorporated yet in WriteLog. Can you please provide
details on how this is done? My present version of WriteLog is 10.86C. 73,

The problem with using the REC button is that you may accidentally hit
that key when playback is not in progress, and get yourself all "out
of sync". You should be able to to program one of the F-keys with
something like:

  {CATA1ASC RX;}{CATA2ASC RX;}

and that should stop DVR playback.

Re: Silly question about DVK3

Pat Cain, KØPC
In reply to this post by Frederick Atchley
Fred,

I'm not sure when this feature was added but you can send commands to the radio with the message function keys. Open the CW/RTTY/SSB Memory Setup window and select the Help button. The radio commands are sent when you use %GAxx in the message. The xx refers to a command number you define in writelog.ini.

An example will show what I'm doing. I have a CQ message stored in M1 on the K3 and want to send it using F1. My F1 message in WriteLog is %GA11. Now I need to define command #11 in writelog.ini. I added a line to the [Elecraft_K3_commands] section that says:
Macro_11=SWT21;

You need to start at command number 11 or higher because 0 through 10 are reserved. The SWT21; comes directly from the K3 Programmer's Reference.

I have defined five macros in writelog.ini so far, one for each of the M1-M4 buttons and one for the REC button to use as a way to kill a message being sent. So my file looks like this:
[Elecraft_K3_commands]
Macro_11=SWT21;
Macro_12=SWT31;
Macro_13=SWT35;
Macro_14=SWT39;
Macro_19=SWT37;

The message for F9 is %GA19 and I reassign the ESC key to send Message 9 to make it work like CW.

As others have said the ESC key is a bit of a kludge and could cause problems if it is hit when a message is not playing. But the worst case is you would have to hit it again to reset before hitting another message key.

I'm still trying to find a way to used both memory banks but so far no go.

In reply to this post by Iain MacDonnell - N6ML-2
Thanks Ian, I hadn't spotted the RX; command but it is exactly what I needed. I have changed my ESC key macro from SWT37; to RX;.

I am also trying to use both memory banks with a command like
SWH37;SWT21;SWH37;   i.e. REC(hold) => M1 => REC(hold)

My hope was to switch to bank 2 send the message and switch back to bank 1. The second REC cancels the recording immediately and the DVR is left in bank 2. Any ideas on how to do this?

Thanks & 73,

Wow, Pat. Thanks for the great info on triggering the KDVR3 from WriteLog.
I've used WriteLog since 2003 FD so it's hard to switch to a new logger. Now
I don't have to.
