Of all my radios, the only one capable of real QRO is the K2 - it
goes up to 15W. So I was trying to work A22/JA4ATV on 7015 with five watts, patiently, and - nothing. I knew it could be done; I'd done it before. Then it sounded as though he was going QRT. Before I could really think through the implications, I had reached out and cranked that power to 11. I called once, and got "ESE?" Yes! The QSO was on. So I got a 339... But at what cost to my soul? Who was it, really, at the controls just then? LL/K3ESE _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Marty DiBergi: Oh, I see. And most amps go up to ten? Nigel Tufnel: Exactly. Marty DiBergi: Does that mean it's louder? Is it any louder? Nigel Tufnel: Well, it's one louder, isn't it? It's not ten. You see, most blokes, you know, will be playing at ten. You're on ten here, all the way up, all the way up, all the way up, you're on ten on your guitar. Where can you go from there? Where? Marty DiBergi: I don't know. Nigel Tufnel: Nowhere. Exactly. What we do is, if we need that extra push over the cliff, you know what we do? Marty DiBergi: Put it up to eleven. Nigel Tufnel: Eleven. Exactly. One louder. Marty DiBergi: Why don't you just make ten louder and make ten be the top number and make that a little louder? Nigel Tufnel: [pause] These go to eleven. ---"This is Spinal Tap" -- -----/___. _)Margaret Stephanie Leber CCP, SCJP/"The art of progress / ----/(, /| /| http://voicenet.com/~maggie SCWCD/ is to preserve order/ ---/ / | / | _ _ _ ` _ AOPA 925383/ amid change and to / --/ ) / |/ |_(_(_(_/_(_/__(__(/_ K3XS / preserve change amid/ -/ (_/ ' .-/ .-/ ARRL 39280 /order."-A.N.Whitehead/ /________________(_/_(_/_______AMSAT 32844_/<[hidden email]>/ _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Lloyd
The K2 is also my QRO (15W) rig ! I also worked him with the K2 running 10W on 40m cw and got a 339 report. I guess the "high" power was the ticket. That's #210 (mixed bands and modes) for me so far using "low power" and QRP on a vertical antenna. Have not had the need to push for the 15W yet but under present conditions if I find a #211 on the air who knows ?
