Switches

Glenn Haffly
As I begin starting on K2 # 4277 I recall something about
switches being accidently melted when soldering something on the front panel
board. To avoid this , what
page in the manual do I need to notate as to pay extra attention to possibly
avoiding this problem ?

Thanks Glenn

Glenn,

Put the first notation on the same page that calls for installation of the
keycaps.  After they are installed, one must be aware of where the soldering
iron is positioned or the nasty smell of melting plastic will fill the
air!!!

The same caution could be observed for the RF board after the relays are
installed.  For myself, it is just common sense to be aware of where ALL
portions of the soldering iron are positioned when soldering, but even so -
'bad stuff will happen' occasionally.

After the damage experience when carelessly placing a hot  soldering iron in
the wrong place, I would move the installation of the key caps  from the top
of page 26 (with fig 5-8) to page 31, to be done  after installing the 4 wires
needed for connecting Z1, the optical  encoder and before the removal of the
protective film from the LCD. The caps are  then in place just before the front
panel PC board and the front panel are  assembled together.
