EHi,
> I'm sorry if this subject has been discussed (I'm sure it has) > but does anyone have advice re. a light wt. switching power > supply for the K2/100? tnx John N0GBR I'm using a Diamond GZV4000 (and sometimes a -6000), and that works well. I also use a somewhat smaller and lighter unit when I am on the road- the Samlex 1230 (25A), but that one gets pretty hot and doesn't seem to be quite as stable. This improves a lot if you connect a lead-acid battery in parallel with the K2. All of the above are HF-clean, by the way. You'd be happier to not scrimp on a good power supply.
I have used the Astron 25 SS-25M for years without fail or hash noise. I think it weighs ~ 4.5 pounds. I have used lighter weight models like the MFJ 25A MightyLite and Jetstream JTPS28 in contests and either one would trip out and shut down under continuous use. de Joe, aa4nn > I'm sorry if this subject has been discussed (I'm sure it has) but does > anyone have advice re. a light wt. switching power supply for the K2/100? > tnx John N0GBR >web page: http://www.elecraft.com > _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. To power any radio (other than matching supply provided by brand
radio) Go with Astron. Use Astron Ron, wb1hga John writes: I'm sorry if this subject has been discussed (I'm sure it has) but does anyone have advice re. a light wt. switching power supply for the K2/100? _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. You cannot go wrong with Astron. Being limited in $$, I bought a
Samlex 1223. I have used the Samlex 1223 with my K2/100 for years without any problems. My Samlex 1223 was involved in a bad house fire. I had to open it and clean out all the smoke deposits and water. After being dried out, it has run FB for three years after the fire. My K2 was the only HF rig recoverable after the fire. I cleaned all the boards with alcohol and distilled water, replaced the melted buttons and knobs, and replaced the front panel. It has also run FB for three years following the fire. The reason it survived was its kit construction and operator repairable design. The only other surviving radio was a Yaesu VX-5 HT that was in a leather case and found on the floor after the fire. Both radios emitted a faint smoke odor upon their operation for two years after the fire. Using a robust power supply is important. Bad designs can itroduce QRM and cause strange behavior due to the slumping of their output under load. It is important to use heavy power cords to your rig for the same reason. Volunteer (s) needed to "person" an Elecraft Booth at the Stone Mountain
Hamfest that will be held in Lawrenceville, Georgia (outside Atlanta) on November 4 and 5, 2006. Hamfest information at: http://www.totr-radio.org/ I did this last year and had a ball! Some of you may remember the "Moon Pie" give away! Unfortunately, it looks like I will not be able to be there this year and am looking for someone (s) who would be willing to "person" the booth. I can get all the arrangements made but just won't be there to enjoy the fun! Any takers? Please respond off list via email or give me a call at 404.218.3595 Cellular. Tnx es 73 -- Don N4HH _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Subscriber Info (Addr. Ron, I had one and it was too noisy for me. Perhaps it was because it was
older ser # of the same model. I am using a Samlex and an Astron SS-30M. Both show no noise.
