Many thanks for your fine comments. I perfectly understand the Elecraft policy, I don't critic it In fact, from the beginning with the K2, it's very coherent. What I don't agree with is using the down conversion hip to market transceivers very expensive like the new Yaesu FT3K, and seeing people on its reflector waiting for it like a miracle. George
I have all 3 of the radios you speak of or I should 4 now sold the TS-590s after 2 weeks. All of these radios even the 5000 and the 3000/K3/K2 can do some things better than the others it's just a fact. I had the second FTDX-5000MP deleivered in the US a 5 mo pre-order for it before release. There are features it has that are superior to the K3 and in my opnion should be a standard for all high end radios a fact. Another fact the 5000 has better receive on the high bands, whereas the K3 excels on the low ones JMHO there. I could go on but I see that I can ad nothing new as I have sold my FTDX-5000MP last week and kept my 2 K3's in a SO2R setup "Downsized" somewhat. I am hoping that Wayne, Eric and the group can find a little better receive on the high bands but I'm getting by for now. The TFDX-3000 comes in at a price point where it's very close to a K3 in cost for the same features and the published numbers aren't looking all that bad either. There are no perfect radios nor will there ever be I guess in my life time. One thing I really miss from the Yaesu line is the keypad for the voice keyer an option I wish would that Elecraft would have for the K3. Much easier than using the pad on the radio distracting in a contest or for timing in a pileup. &3, Fred/N0AZZ -----Original Message----- From: [hidden email] [mailto:[hidden email]] On Behalf Of Georges Ringotte F6DFZ Sent: Friday, October 12, 2012 2:45 AM To: [hidden email] Subject: [Elecraft] TR : Down or Up conversions designs -------- Message original -------- Objet : Re: [Elecraft] Down or Up conversions designs De : Georges Ringotte F6DFZ <[hidden email]> À : [hidden email] Cc : Hi Alan, Happy to meet the Elecraft firmware guru! With CQ WW SSB approaching, perhaps you and others may be interested in using N1MM to control the K3DVR. Iain N6ML has written instructions for this on this page: http://www.dseven.org/ar/n1mm-kdvr3 This is extremely useful in contests and allows you to use the normal F-keys to send voice messages, just like on CW. I imagine with a little work that Iain's approach could be adapted other loggers besides N1MM. This eliminates the need to press the K3 buttons and I prefer the simplicity of using the K3DVR versus hassling with computer soundcards. 73, Bill W4ZV |

Hi,
Bob, N6TV has written LUA script "Plug-ins" to control the K3 DVK (and other functions) via the F-keys from within Win-Test contest logging software. There are some other scripts for use with YAESU transceivers and Microham devices as well. http://www.kkn.net/~n6tv/wtscripts/Readme.txt http://www.kkn.net/~n6tv/wtscripts/ 73, Win DK9IP schrieb Bill W4ZV: > Fred Smith wrote >> One thing I really miss from the Yaesu line is the keypad for the voice >> keyer an option I wish would that Elecraft would have for the K3. Bill
I will have a look at that I do run N1MM and WriteLOG for different contests thanks. I also don't care for the computer sound cards, the FTDX-5000 came with a keypad a switch for them usually an add-on in there line. 73, Fred/N0AZZ -----Original Message----- From: [hidden email] [mailto:[hidden email]] On Behalf Of Bill W4ZV Sent: Friday, October 12, 2012 6:00 AM To: [hidden email] Subject: Re: [Elecraft] TR : Down or Up conversions designs Fred Smith wrote > One thing I really miss from the Yaesu line is the keypad for the > voice keyer an option I wish would that Elecraft would have for the > K3. Hi Win
This just keeps getting better I run microHAM u2R & microKEYER II thanks a lot for the links. Just another reason I kept my Elecraft radios this board and factory support! 73, Fred/N0AZZ -----Original Message----- From: [hidden email] [mailto:[hidden email]] On Behalf Of Win Kriegl DK9IP/KH7CD Sent: Friday, October 12, 2012 6:20 AM To: [hidden email] Subject: Re: [Elecraft] TR : Down or Up conversions designs Hi, Bob, N6TV has written LUA script "Plug-ins" to control the K3 DVK (and other functions) via the F-keys from within Win-Test contest logging software.
