Just after I got up this morning and turned on the K3 and P3 It turned out I was tuned to TX5K (Clipperton DXpedition) on 7022.9 KHz and boy what a zoo there was calling them up anywhere from 1 to 6 KHz or so, sometimes as far as 10-12 KHz up. After I used the P3 to find a hole near the station(s) he was working, I did manage to work them.
Using the newer P3/SVGA firmware I did a screen capture of the zoo to a memory stick and uploaded it to Photobucket so I could pass it on to whoever wanted to see it. Those that don't, just ignore or delete this message - LOL. I turned off the data decode/encode windows so the waterfall portion is quite large and the signal traces are really visible. The faint ones are just barely above the noise and the brighter ones are between S7 and S9+. Ssshh, Jim, we don't want others to know our secrets!
Seriously, I think I am noticing that the pileup jumps on the dx's listening frequency faster these days. Usually it is faster to work stations without tuning after each one but the op on 40 this am seemed to be tuning after almost every qso. When he would work somebody in a bit of a hole the hole would get filled almost immediately. So please, people, don't buy a P3 :-) 73 and cheers, Fred KE7X -----Original Message----- From: [hidden email] [mailto:[hidden email]] On Behalf Of Jim Sheldon Sent: Monday, March 04, 2013 6:33 AM To: Elecraft Mailing List Subject: [Elecraft] TX5K on 40 meters this morning Just after I got up this morning and turned on the K3 and P3 It turned out I was tuned to TX5K (Clipperton DXpedition) on 7022.9 KHz and boy what a zoo there was calling them up anywhere from 1 to 6 KHz or so, sometimes as far as 10-12 KHz up. My KPA500 and P3 have worked TX5K on 8 CW slots and 1 RTTY slot. Setting
the SPAN to about 8 to 10 Khz makes the pileup holes easy to find (when they are there). Yes they do fill up quite fast. Also DXA is a very interesting novelty. 73 Joe K2UF With enough THRUST pig fly just fine. -----Original Message----- From: [hidden email] [mailto:[hidden email]] On Behalf Of Cady, Fred Sent: Monday, March 04, 2013 9:20 AM To: Jim Sheldon; Elecraft Mailing List Subject: Re: [Elecraft] TX5K on 40 meters this morning Ssshh, Jim, we don't want others to know our secrets! My barefoot K3 and dipoles no higher than 40 feet have worked them on nine bands and three modes (I don't need 26 band slots) - most of the time has been spent listening while they were working "Europe only" on every available band. Whether phone, CW or RTTY the K3, KRX3 and P3 make an unbeatable team - see where they're working on the P3, tune to the station he's working with the KRX3 and call. Many times it did not take more than one call - including 160 and 80 CW. 73, ... Joe, W4TV On 3/4/2013 12:18 PM, Joe K2UF wrote: > My KPA500 and P3 have worked TX5K on 8 CW slots and 1 RTTY slot. Joe
I have3 worked them here on several bands all SSB using my K3 and one using my KX3 20m was lucky but timing was perfect. From the heart of Zero Land the fly over zone! Good luck to all this is a fine bunch of ops. 73, Fred/N0AZZ -----Original Message----- From: [hidden email] [mailto:[hidden email]] On Behalf Of Joe Subich, W4TV Sent: Monday, March 04, 2013 3:05 PM To: [hidden email] Subject: Re: [Elecraft] TX5K on 40 meters this morning My barefoot K3 and dipoles no higher than 40 feet have worked them on nine bands and three modes (I don't need 26 band slots) - most of the time has been spent listening while they were working "Europe only" on every available band.
