Hi all,
I will be running the net as usual on 3658 +/- QRM at 09:00z. We should be joined by someone with a very new toy!!!! Not me by the way but I am looking forward to the net :) 73 Ian -- Ian J Maude, G0VGS SysOp GB7MBC & HB9DRV-9 DX Clusters Member RSGB, GQRP 9838, FISTS 14077 | K3 #455 http://www.m0scg.org.uk ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

Can't hear me on properly SSB obviously though you are 59 down here but noise is low. So, I call in in CW and you say "This is an SSB only Net" - go away!

Hi,
I heard someone call in but I could not make out the callsign, neither could anyone else unfortunately. I did try a couple of times after that to listen for you but nothing was heard. As for the CW, all I heard was a G and the same goes for the rest of the guys on the net. We had no idea it was you, sorry. I assumed, wrongly as it tuns out, that it was someone messing about which is when I made a comment that it was a SSB net, which of course it is. What I didn't do was tell anyone to 'go away'. I apologise if you were offended but it is very difficult when you cannot hear the station calling :) 73 Ian -- Ian J Maude, G0VGS SysOp GB7MBC & HB9DRV-9 DX Clusters Member RSGB, GQRP 9838, FISTS 14077 | K3 #455 http://www.m0scg.org.uk On 20 Feb 2011, at 09:06, AD6XY wrote: > > Can't hear me on properly SSB obviously though you are 59 down here but noise > is low. CW is an ideal fallback when conditions are such that wide bandwidth modes are difficult. Unfortunately these days, not everyone is capable of CW or can be bothered developing their skill in the code. I heard you at RST 559, Michael, but unfortunately I was not in a position to be able to call in. 73 de David G4DMP -- + - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - + | David M Pratt, Kippax, Leeds. | | Website: http://www.g4dmp.co.uk | + - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - + ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

David
Myself and at least one other on the net today are primarily CW operators. I did not copy a full call sign, I copied a couple of letters on top of someone else's transmission. Had I copied a callsign I would certainly have tried to pull him in I am sure a CW call in would have worked just fine IF it had been timed to coincide with any of the many pauses that were left between transmissions. That is rather unfair Brendon. Most of the time, in fact all of the time when I called in, someone called over the top of me. I can't know in advance when someone who can't hear me is going to transmit. When you got two or 3 characters, that was when I stopped because with QSK I can tell in someone is transmitting on top of me. I stopped and gave up on being told "This is an SSB net".

There is one Canadian net which runs voice on a frequency which Americans
are limited to CW. So, I set my rig for cross mode and did just as Ron mentions. "BK" got me a happy response from the voice op NCS who told me he did not copy code well. He immediately asked for help from another op who relayed my information. It was fun to work cross mode with such polite and pleasant operators. 73, Kevin.
