Another busy net this week. More stations than ever and a couple of K2
(10W) transceivers and a K2/100. Some interesting observations on diversity receive with the K3 and it's 2nd receiver, how to set the 2nd receiver filters to track the main receiver filter settings, S-meter settings/calibration and features in the latest field test firmware especially with regard to ALC on SSB and power level setting. Stations were: GW0SYN, John G4DBS, Barry G3MLO, Peter G0VGS, Ian M1PAF, Paul G4ILO, Julian GM0ELP, Doug G0MJW, Mike EI6IZ, Brendan G4ARI, Tim M0GJH, Andrew G4CWB, Dave See you all next week! 73 Dave, G4AON K3/100 #80 _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Damn - even after your reminder, I forgot - and it sounds like it was

I had a brief listen this morning but those signals on at that time were way down in strength and not really copyable through local linetimebase noise. I see most of those listed are in the north of England, maybe daytime propagation is better up there than down here in Berkshire. There again I couldn't hear any dx on the higher bands either... 73 Dave G3YMC |
I'm not too familiar with 80m propagation as I have only just got going on the band (and only now with a loaded dipole zig-zagged into the loft) but my experience so far suggests that propagation is better at night time. I didn't hear anyone south of Dave. If my antenna isn't enough of a disadvantage, I have the entire Lake District mountains between me and the rest of England, which certainly doesn't help. If anyone wanted to try a contact at 2230 local mid-week, I'd be interested to participate. I've had contacts further south at that time of night. I'm not going to be the initiator though because with my antenna not everyone will hear me, and I may not hear them either with the high level of QRN on that band. Most people on 80 in the evening seem to be running 400W, which is never going to be an option for me with indoor antennas. The frequency Dave picked, 3630, is better for me because the Q of my antenna is quite sharp and it's resonant at about 3600 so I can use it on data modes and CW. The SWR at the top of 80 doesn't bear looking at.

Yes, conditions were poor, I could only hear a few of the stations on and as my noise level is very high it was not great fun. I called in but doubt anyone other than Dave heard me.
With skip I expected the Northern signals to be stronger than those closer, but it did not appear to be the case this morning. Perhaps we need a Southern group? There must be many K3s south of Birmingham. While it is nice to know there are people getting out to the net control with only 10W, they are impossible to hear down here, so please can people run as much power as possible to allow everyone to participate. Guys,
When I get my K3 fixed I'll try and be on the net, work permitting, would be nice to chat and share "K3 experiences" Would be a real challenge to work the USA net... would like to do that too :-) 73's Berni g3ymc wrote: > > Dave G4AON wrote: > >> Another busy net this week. High noise level (57) stopped play for me. Could just hear Dave at the start, then started to drop off rapidly within the space of half an hour. Over the last couple of weeks earlier has been better for me. Using 80m doublet @30ft and Acom 1000.

Mike, just where are you?
Obviously not in AD country! 73 de M0XDF, K3 #174 -- If all is not lost, where is it?
