Recently I ordered an item from the USA and specified USPS International
Express Mail, I'm sure I've used that service in the past for Elecraft bits and kits. One memorable occasion resulted in a delivery four days after placing the order. Sadly, it seems the system has deteriorated as follows (from USPS tracking): Attempted Delivery Abroad, October 27, 2007, 9:25 am, GREAT BRITAIN Out of Foreign Customs, October 26, 2007, 5:11 am, GREAT BRITAIN Into Foreign Customs, October 23, 2007, 5:33 pm, GREAT BRITAIN Arrived Abroad, October 23, 2007, 5:13 pm, GREAT BRITAIN International Dispatch, October 18, 2007, 2:18 pm, O'HARE APT/CHICAGO Processed, October 18, 2007, 11:49 am, CHICAGO, IL 60666 Processed, October 17, 2007, 6:35 pm, DETROIT, MI 48242 Electronic Shipping Info Received, October 17, 2007 I don't know what "attempted delivery abroad" on Saturday 27th means, no attempt to deliver here and nothing so far on Monday by 1720 hours local time. I might have to alter my K3 order to UPS delivery at this rate! 73 Dave G4AON _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Dave,
Our postal system has undergone some signifigant changes recently, with many rate increases, lots of size-related rate changes, etc. I do considerable eBay selling and all the overseas rates have changed along with allowable package sizes, etc. I suspect the shipping folks at Elecraft are going through a learning process, too. Just an observation ... 73! Ken
The package in question isn't from Elecraft. The problem lies with the USPS Express Mail International service which states on their web site (and I quote): "Speed 3 - 5 days". The package has been 12 calendar days, or 8 "Monday to Friday" working days so far. There will be tax to pay on the package so I suspect there may be a letter on the door mat asking me to phone and pay the tax before they will deliver, adding further delay to an already tedious process. Dave, G4AON K3 on order... I suspect what they mean is 3-5 days to get it into the hands of the overseas mail system. Beyond that point they have no control over delays in foreign customs or deliveries. We send letters and printed material overseas as Global Priority Mail (7-9 days) and it always gets there on time with no customs formalities required. Perhaps this was a glitch with the BPO (or whatever its successor is called now), and not with the USPS. -- 73 de K2ASP - Phil Kane Elecraft K2/100 s/n 5402 _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Hi Dave
That's pretty much exactly my experience too, about 10 days (longer in one case where it was close to a US vacation). Last time though, it sat with UK customs for 3 days! I've never tried UPS. I'm about to order some bits for my new K1, so it'll be interesting to see how long that takes. As for the K3, not ordered yet, but I have a feeling that the elecraft family here is set to grow! Got to get the XYL used to one thing at a time, and then claim I've actually had it lying around for ages collecting dust at work! I'm sure she's onto me though.... 73 Stephen G4SJP On 29/10/07 18:21, "Dave G4AON" <[hidden email]> wrote: > Recently I ordered an item from the USA and specified USPS International > Express Mail, I'm sure I've used that service in the past for Elecraft > bits and kits.
