When I tune the K3, the P3 display is jerky and jumpy. Is this normal?

Bob, I see the same thing with K3 #69 and P3 #817. I assumed it was normal but am interested in what others are experiencing too. I'm completely new to the world of the K3 and P3, but I actually can answer this one for you guys. There is a parameter located in the P3 called "Set the refresh rate (ms). If this is set to a large number the display will only refresh that often. If it happens to be set to 500 ms (1/2 second) or even higher the display will appear very jerky. Set that parameter down to around zero and you'll get quick sweeps that won't appear jerky at all.

One other thing that I hadn't run across but was called to my attention - The averaging mode must be set to 2 as well as having a high refresh rate or the trace will be jerky when you tune the K3. This stands to reason. No matter what the refresh rate for the P3's screen, if the signals are being averaged by the P3, the average timing must be completed before the display can update.
I don't use averaging mode much so hadn't noticed that one yet. Hope this helps those with "jerky" tuning displays. Averaging is clunky when tuning because BY DEFINITION a period must
pass with accumulation of individual data points in order to make a display. IF you leave averaging on when you tune, by mathematical definition, the display MUST lag behind where you really are tuned, by the averaging period. This was exceedingly annoying, so ithe P3 switches averaging off so it shows where you ARE instead of where you WERE. With averaging on, once you've started to tune, there is now a difference between where you were and where you are and changing the screen off averaging necessarily involves a jump. With tuning, having the P3 showing exactly where you are as the tuning progresses garners all the votes. Just another version of between a rock and a hard place, caught between math and physics, and appearances. What's a fella to do? 73, Guy. a good solution (for me ) could be to freeze the averaged signal for the seconds of tuning and moving the frozen signal on the screen. So you could see moving your determined signal to the filter section.

This is absolutely normal when averaging is turned on. Each time you
