That's surprisingly expensive. I got something similar over here for about
GBP6 each. Mine have a large diameter tube above ground and I use 2 side by side with a 10mm tube between them to act as a pivot. I use the system to raise lightweight poles single-handed. Brilliant device. What I've been searching for David, have you got a web site address for them?

I've picked up several types over the years. A couple are all-metal. The
ones I got last summer are called pole anchors, from Lidl, but they only stock things for a very short time. I've seen ground anchors, ground screws, etc. Used also for tent posts, wind break posts (see Ebay for cheap, small diameter ones called windbreak steel screw in ground anchor tube). Try this one http://www.pozitube.com/poleanchors/ it's very similar, an update on mine. 73 David G3UNA ----- Original Message ----- From: "David Ferrington, M0XDF" <[hidden email]> To: "David Cutter" <[hidden email]> Cc: "Phil Townsend" <[hidden email]>; "Elecraft Reflector" <[hidden email]> Sent: Monday, May 16, 2011 10:43 PM Subject: Re: [Elecraft] Very cool Earth Screw at Lee Valley Tools... Thanks, I'm looking for something my DK9SQ mast might stand upright in without much need for guying and I want to be able to take it out of the ground again. The firreglasee telescopic mast has a 55mm bottonm section dia.

I suggest you use my pivot idea, it's too much leverage to directly fit the
f/g pole directly into the screw anchor: cut a short length of 3" drain pipe and cross drill with holes for the pivot near one end. Fix 2 ground anchors about 4" apart (edge to edge) or closer and fit the metal tube between the 2. A detachable handle is supplied with the anchor and this I use as the pivot. Put the f/g pole into the 3" tube and raise against 2 fixed guys, front and back; the pivot restricts movement on that axis. If it's really windy, fix another couple of guys. I use 2mm poly rope. The whole thing is strong and lightweight. Mine is the DuoFix and they are all-plastic. 73 David G3UNA Thanks, I'm looking for something my DK9SQ mast might stand upright in without much need for guying and I want to be able to take it out of the ground again. I have used the "Earthworm" for 20' poles:
http://www.shadeusa.com/beach_umbrella_holders.htm I may try the larger version for a Jackite 31' pole. Speaking of Jackite, they also have pole mounts: https://www.jackite.com/index.php?cPath=49&osCsid=a67fb225b320106a42f629bbe263bd26 I use a Jackite pole to hold up a 300-ohm twinlead-fed 66' inverted-V that works FB on 40m to 10m with my K2/KAT2 via a B1 4:1 balun. It is so nice to have all those bands available when operating from the picnic table at the park. 73, John W2XS |
I use these:
http://t2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSqryMls2ojpz4K_cNSLt0h1y744kO8i4uQNQXAhkNENVTAcxK3 They are really inexpensive, just a couple of Euro's, and depending on soil conditions can easily support large vertical antenna's or other poles. You could try camping stores and look for umbrella/parasol screws as someone mentioned before. 73, Maarten PD2R 2011/5/17 John W2XS <[hidden email]> > I have used the "Earthworm" for 20' poles: > > http://www.shadeusa.com/beach_umbrella_holders.htm > > I may try the larger version for a Jackite 31' pole. > > Speaking of Jackite, they also have pole mounts: > > > https://www.jackite.com/index.php?cPath=49&osCsid=a67fb225b320106a42f629bbe263bd26 > > I use a Jackite pole to hold up a 300-ohm twinlead-fed 66' inverted-V that > works FB on 40m to 10m with my K2/KAT2 via a B1 4:1 balun.
