Like many of you I go to a lot of trade shows for my business, both as an
attendee and as an exhibitor. With this experience in my background I have to say I was surprised and pleased to see both Eric and Wayne in the Elecraft booth every time I walked by. I probably visited the booth 10 times over three days, several of those visits being lengthy. In each case they were both hard at work doing demos, talking to owners, taking orders, and filling orders. Neither batted an eye at my obtuse request to have them autograph one of the inside panels of my new K2. The booth itself was equally humble. A small investment in a pop-up display would have really dressed it up, but a few nice posters and a couple tables of product was more accessible and perhaps more impressive. No problem picking up the merchandise or sending a CQ (no antenna, no problem -- it's tough). A little humility and accessibility goes an awful long way. You guys set a high standard for yourself. It made me that much more proud to own an Elecraft radio. Well done. Hello all,
I am working on the 2nd of my two K2 kits while my first is waiting for some flux-off and have reached the IF Amplifier Alignment and cannot hear the internal signal. All resistance checks and alignment up to the point has been without issue. I checked and rechecked the board for solder problems last night without any luck. Any suggestions on where I might focus my search? 73, John KD7ZYR _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Should Wayne and Eric ever consider attending in person some trade show or dx convention here in Italy, it would be a pleasure to try and help them organize it. A pity I am on the wrong side of the pond or I would have been there for sure! Update:
At lunch I used the signal tracing handout and could not inject a signal into TP#1 and hear any change at all. I verified all the parts and installation direction of all the items in the handout as well as reflowing the solder points with no change. One item of note is that the static hiss does change at all when changing freqs by moving the knob or by changing bands with the BAND +/- buttons. 74, John KD7ZYR -----Original Message----- From: elecraft-bounces+bonkj=[hidden email] [mailto:elecraft-bounces+bonkj=[hidden email]] On Behalf Of John Bonk Sent: Monday, May 23, 2005 9:19 AM To: [hidden email] Subject: [Elecraft] Cannot hear internal ref. signal Hello all, I am working on the 2nd of my two K2 kits while my first is waiting for some flux-off and have reached the IF Amplifier Alignment and cannot hear the internal signal. Update:
After some coaching from Gary and another gentleman on the reflector, I was able to use my wideband noise generator to inject a signal and traced it down to one missing capacitor near U1. After that, I finished Alignment phase II, installed the rest of the parts and completed phase II with no issues. Tonight will be a final test & tune and try and get on the airwaves. I just received two cans of water-soluble flux remover in the mail and I can turn my attentions to my other dead-in-the-water K2 next week. I highly recommend the toroid winding service. Mychael has always gotten them in the mail quickly and for a guy on a busy schedule like me. This is money well spent for the time and frustration saved. 73, John KD7ZYR -----Original Message----- From: elecraft-bounces+bonkj=[hidden email] [mailto:elecraft-bounces+bonkj=[hidden email]] On Behalf Of John Bonk Sent: Monday, May 23, 2005 1:28 PM To: [hidden email] Subject: RE: [Elecraft] Cannot hear internal ref. signal Update: At lunch I used the signal tracing handout and could not inject a signal into TP#1 and hear any change at all.
