Why would you want to use something that you don't even know will work?
Personally, with Windows releases, I always wait for the "gotta have the
newest and best" people to work out the kinks.

Only Bill could answer that and I'm betting he won't. I sure wouldn't load it if I
didn't have a way out. It's a test release.

I wouldn't put Windows 8 on anything other than an isolated sandbox
computer that is detached from the network.  Just my two cents' worth as
a guy with nearly 18 years' IT experience.

Re: Windows 8 Consumer Preview

Phil Hystad-3
Better yet, just create a VM to run Windows 8.  That is what we always do now for not just new systems but multiple systems.  On my Windows box at work I have about 4 different VM hosted systems.  Of course, one big problem with hosting with a VM is that a brand new OS is often not supported yet but.

If I really wanted to try out Windows 8, I would see if any of the VMs (VMWare or Microsoft for example) support it.

Re: Windows 8 Consumer Preview

John Payne
I have 8 running on a virtual machine under Oracle VM VirtualBox, so far
no problems other than the weird user interface.  This is within Win 7x64.

Chances are good. From the Windows 8 product guide:
"Behind the bold, new look of Windows 8, is the rock-solid foundation you've
come to
expect from WindowsR 7. Immerse yourself in the exciting features of a new
generation of PCs while enjoying the full power of Windows. In addition to
the sleek, new look of the start screen, Windows 8 incorporates the desktop
that you're already familiar with. In the desktop, you'll see that the
settings, devices, and features you used in Windows 7 are still there. You
can run older apps, too."

Re: Windows 8 Consumer Preview

Sounds like they have no clue on how to improve Windows other than the
bling. So it is going to be a service pack for win7 that is going to cost
you 200 bucks. I'll pass.
