Actually it does not matter. No adapter is included with the K3 or
KX3. The KX3 will include a mic plug you can wire yourself. It is a 3.5mm 4 conductor plug. There is a menu item to enable or disable the up/dn button signals provided by the MH3 mic. I connected a standard 3 conductor audio cable that breaks down to two RCA connectors and use that to interface my CM500 and a PTT switch. 73 Greg AB7R On 2/19/2012 11:15 AM, [hidden email] wrote: > Alright. > > I have a question about the CM500 and PTT > > If I want to use PTT is an adapter already included with the package or do I need to by it. Its the KX3 (sorry)
But for wiring, I am not in a position to do any construction. So all I am looking to do is use a CM500 with a PPT hand switch, and wondering what I still need aside from what is included with the headphone The hand switch. And maybe the adapter? a 'kosher' ham Sent from my BlackBerry device -----Original Message----- From: Greg <[hidden email]> Sender: [hidden email] Date: Sun, 19 Feb 2012 11:26:32 To: <[hidden email]> Subject: Re: [Elecraft] Yamaha CM500/PPT Headset Actually it does not matter. What I use for a hand PTT switch is a small Micro Switch snap action
switch from my junkbox. It is about an inch long and half an inch wide and just a little higher. It has a button on the top. After soldering wires on the terminals I covered the back half with shrink tubing. Since I am not a touch typist I can hold it in my hand while using a keyboard or even write with a pencil. Works great for me, but each has his own opinions. Oihhhh so no need at all for PTT with the CM500

If you don't want to use VOX, you tap the XMIT switch on the KX3. Also, I am getting excellent audio reports with the MH3, better than using
the CM500. 73 Greg On Sun, Feb 19, 2012 at 3:03 PM, Ron D'Eau Claire <[hidden email]> wrote: > The only "dumb" question is the question not asked! > > If you want to hold a PTT switch in your hand, you might consider the MH3 > microphone that has built in PTT *and* frequency up/down buttons that allow > you to tweak the receive frequency without touching the KX3 itself. > > A hand switch to work with the CM500 would require some sort of adapter as > others pointed out. I did order the mic MH3. But I am sure when I am home, the cats and wife would rather not hear the chatter. So therefore why the need for a headphone
I am so new that 'I don't know what I don't know' So I need a 'pigtail' adapter and a pTT cable/switch I don't want to wait a second when I get the KX3, which I would if I don't figure this out and am stuck at home and have the 'chatter restriction' (IE cats/wife) ;-) ------Original Message------ From: Ron D'Eau Claire To: [hidden email] To: [hidden email] Subject: RE: [Elecraft] Yamaha CM500/PPT Headset Sent: Feb 19, 2012 17:03 The only "dumb" question is the question not asked! If you want to hold a PTT switch in your hand, you might consider the MH3 microphone that has built in PTT *and* frequency up/down buttons that allow you to tweak the receive frequency without touching the KX3 itself. A hand switch to work with the CM500 would require some sort of adapter as others pointed out. The KX3 uses a four wire TRRS mic connector (tip, ring 1, ring 2 and sleeve). Connecting the rings together puts the KX3 in transmit. That's why you must disable the PTT operation in the KX3's MENU if you plug in a mono mic connector such as the CM500 or the ProSet have. Otherwise the two rings short to the sleeve in the mono jack and the KX3 will transmit. 73 Ron AC7AC -----Original Message----- From: [hidden email] [mailto:[hidden email]] Sent: Sunday, February 19, 2012 2:39 PM To: Ron D'Eau Claire; [hidden email] Subject: Re: [Elecraft] Yamaha CM500/PPT Headset Oihhhh so no need at all for PTT with the CM500 I am bad Thanks And if I want a hand switch etc? This is not an elegant solution, but I do use my Yamaha CM500 most of the
time. I have it plugged into the back of the K3. My MH2 microphone is still plugged into the front, and I just use the "push to talk" switch on the MH2, even when I'm using the CM500. Of course, a simple switch could be created, but this took no effort and isn't all that bad an alternative.
