Yamaha CM500 and DXDoubler

Jorge Diez - CX6VM-2
Hello,

I used with no problema my CM500 with the K3.

Now I want to try the DXDoubler, and seems the CM500 don´t work with
DXDoubler, could be possible?

I connected my old Heil ProSet and now I can transmit in the second radio
(TS850) but still not in the K3.

Any help about menu, config for use Heil ProSet connected to a DXDoulber and
to K3

thanks!

Jorge

When you use the CM500 with DX Doubler, you need to use the little battery
bias unit that came with CM500 because the DX Doubler will NOT carry back
the bias from the K3 to the headset. It uses a mono plug for the
microphone, not the stereo plug. Also, don't forget to turn off "bias" on
the K3 when you use CM500/bias adaptor with DX Doubler.

Jorge,

If it works with the TS850, then the CM500 and bias adaptor are okay. With
the DX Doubler, your mic input (on the front) is simply relay switched to
the mic output (on the back) then carried to the K3 rear mic connector via
the DX Doubler interface cable. Make sure you've got connectivity from the
end to end for both the mic line and the gnd line. If that's okay, then it
has to be something with the K3 set up.

Yamaha CM500 bias batteries durability

Jorge Diez - CX6VM-2
In reply to this post by k6rb
hello,

how long a pair of AAA batteries will last in the bias of the CM500?  Will
be enough for a 48 hours operation in the contest?

I need to use the small black box with the 2 x AAA batteries to connect the
CM500 in the DXDoubler.

Jorge

Why not just get a couple more to be sure you won't be off the air if they

Yamaha CM500 bias box problem

Jorge Diez - CX6VM-2
In reply to this post by Jorge Diez - CX6VM-2
Hello,

it´s possible that the small black bias box of the Yamaha CM500 was damaged
if I use bias in the K3?

I was using DXDoubler for SO2R last weekend. CM500 connected to DXDoubler so
I needed to use the black bias box.

Since I couldn´t record M1-M4 messages in the K3 from the CM500 connected to
the DXDoubler, I connected directly CM500 (without black bias box) in the
back of the K3 and turn ON bias and record the messages.

Then I connected CM500 with bias box on the DXDoubler, but I forgot to turn
OFF bias in the K3 menu.

And I noticed that it stop working. I tested again the CM500 on the K3 and
work properly, so the problem is in the small bias box.

No signs of damage, but I cannot open it to see inside.

Any idea how to repair it or to buy another one?

Jorge,

Your answer is that they last just long enough to die on the first day
of a major contest in October. Don't ask me how I know that ;-)

Take Tom's advice and keep extra batteries on hand at all times.

The black box besides the battery holder and connectors has just one resistor. If I remember correctly, you should be able to open the box and check. I had to open mine because of failed solder connection. The wire used for "pig tail" connector is pretty weak, it brakes easily. Check the wire and the battery holder connections.

Re: Yamaha CM500 bias batteries durability

Joe Subich, W4TV-4

Jorge,

How could you have damaged the bias box?  The circuit is:

   "Radio"                         "Mic"
                   1 uF
     Tip ---+-------|(--------+---- Tip
            |                 |
     Ring --+                 >
                              >  2K2
                              >
                              |
              +--- 3V --------+
              |
              |
     Sleeve --+-------------------- Sleeve

There is no connection to the "ring" on the mic side of the
box.
