Thank you to the Lister who started the thread about "why I bought a
K3". And equal thanks to Alexy for his recent posting on "why I won't buy a K3". Both of those threads helped me make up my mind once and for all. The order was placed, the enter button was hit, the REF # came back, and now I just have to wait for the postman to ring. My XYL wanted me to wait until I repainted the downstairs, hung a new ceiling fan, and fixed the running toilet in the guest bathroom. In a masterful demonstration of tactical negotiation, I took her out this morning and bought her the Chihuahua she's been wanting. Yes, that's how much I wanted a K3! I'm a 100% HF CW QRP OP. I look forward to sitting down in front of "the best" CW rig in the world. And if I change my mind, the K3 was designed to provide me with the ability to expand my operating dimensions. As far as "building" a K3, I'll be happy to screw boards together and mount knobs if it means that I'll end up with a premier radio. 73, Stan Levandowski WB2LQF QRP CW: Skill, not power! Stan,
You won't regret the K3 - the dog, well I'm not so sure about that! :-) Our Jack Russell drives me bonkers, although I live in Jack Russell land, the breed was first bred just a mile along the road from here by the Revd Jack Russell. I've bought my wife some nice antique earrings for her birthday in May, and now you've set me wondering what I'll be able to get away with then! So, to keep this on topic, I'm really looking forward to putting some more hardware in my P3. Monitor output? Directional coupler port? Coffee maker? Please? 73 Stephen G4SJP On 06/03/2011 21:45, "stan levandowski" <[hidden email]> wrote: > >Thank you to the Lister who started the thread about "why I bought a >K3". We want you to make a video of the dog repainting the downstairs, hanging the ceiling fan and fixing the toilet. That was the tradeoff, right?

Stephen, I spent my career in business and negotiation is how things get done in business. I began buttering her up a while back. Offering to cook supper, taking her out for Sunday breakfast, cleaning the bathrooms, etc. After a period of this "indirect" approach I then cut a cardboard box down to the 10x10x4 size of the K3 and pasted a downloaded picture of it on the box. I set it next to my K2 but said nothing. In a few days,, her curiosity got the best of her and she asked about it. I explained that it was my dream rig and that it would really be the final piece I'd need to complete my perfect All-Elecraft station. This all made it easier to get to "you can buy your radio after we finish the painting." The dog idea was a stroke of genius on my part...or was it???? 73, Stan WB2LQF On Sun, Mar 6, 2011 at 4:58 PM, Stephen Prior wrote: > Stan, > > You won't regret the K3 - the dog, well I'm not so sure about that! > :-) > Our Jack Russell drives me bonkers, although I live in Jack Russell > land, > the breed was first bred just a mile along the road from here by the > Revd > Jack Russell. > > I've bought my wife some nice antique earrings for her birthday in > May, > and now you've set me wondering what I'll be able to get away with > then! > > So, to keep this on topic, I'm really looking forward to putting some > more > hardware in my P3. Stan,
Definitely a stroke of genius. I mean, the painting would have made your life miserable for a couple of days on the outside, and the Jack Russell will make your life miserable for the next 12 years. But you're going to fall in love with the little critter after a few weeks, and then it'll all be good :) As for your choice of rig. Well, I wasn't in doubt, if I was going to buy any rig it would be the K3, there was no other option, it's a "real" radio, not like those "PC's with built in RF radio card" that other manufacturers pass for high end transceivers. I am so happy with mine after a week and I feel confident I'll never regret it. It's only my second rig, the first one that saw me through my novice (Uk "Foundation Licence" period) was a TS-130S, almost as old as myself and bought from eBay for a couple of hundred pounds... 73, Thomas M6TTH On 6 March 2011 22:13, stan levandowski <[hidden email]> wrote: > > > Stephen, I spent my career in business and negotiation is how things get > done in business. Stan,
That's brilliant, your strategy and patience brought the results in the end. Please don't take offence, but I'm going to have to delete this email now in case it ever falls into the wrong hands!! Seriously, I've had my K3 (#980) now for over two years and I still like it a lot. I've added bits and pieces to it as time and finances have allowed, and that is one of the advantages of the Elecraft way. By the time we have paid shipping costs and taxes here in the UK it is certainly not a cheap line of equipment but we accept that for the quality we receive and the great service, much of it via this reflector. Give the dog a pat for me, I'm sure that he/she will soon get the hang of the paintbrush! 73 Stephen On 06/03/2011 22:13, "stan levandowski" <[hidden email]> wrote: > > > >Stephen, I spent my career in business and negotiation is how things get >done in business. I think the video shows something else. Sue is a keeper. No wonder you got her Cocoa!
But we expect the next video to show Cocoa doing the painting... ;-) GL with the K3. It's not much heavier than the box but is MUCH more useful as snagging DX. But the next add-on will be heavier. I predict a KPA500... Will Cocoa get a brother/sister for that one? 73! I think the dog and the K3 weigh about the same... My wife is getting a new dog too. We agreed that I get an upgrade to my K3 if she gets another dog since the dog will cost much more in the long run. I can't decide if I want the second receiver or a P3. BTW, I like Stan's shack, I am trying to figure out where it is in his home. 73 WU9B Steve

My suggestion is to take a couple of days off before the K3 arrives to
do the repainting and repairs because when you have your K3 at home you will have no time anymore for this. :-) 73 Henk PA5KT Op 06-03-2011 22:45, stan levandowski schreef: > Thank you to the Lister who started the thread about "why I bought a > K3". Just received email notice that it has shipped already! I thought it
would take a few days at least. I figured somebody out there had to grab the master packing list and creatively stuff the box to my order. Apparently Elecraft's business philosophy is the same as its technical philosophy: top shelf. BUT....I don't think I can paint fast enough. ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |
*Stan,
Speaking from experience, I have learnt the four words that have allowed me to navigate 30 years of married bliss....'YYes Dear I'm Sorry' Perhaps this will help you buy some time to finish the painting?...:-) If not, then I guess you will have to look at this as 'delayed gratification'...:-) Elecraft sure have raised the bar when it comes to 'customer service' among many other attributes they have notwithstanding a superb product list eh? Enjoy the ride mate! 73's Gary * On 8 March 2011 06:26, stan levandowski <[hidden email]> wrote: > Just received email notice that it has shipped already! Yes, and I have also learned that the arguments only last as long as it
takes me to realize I am wrong. 73, de Jim KG0KP ----- Original Message ----- From: "Gary Gregory" <[hidden email]> To: "stan levandowski" <[hidden email]> Cc: <[hidden email]> Sent: Monday, March 07, 2011 4:24 PM Subject: Re: [Elecraft] You people just made me buy a K3 five minutes ago > *Stan, > > Speaking from experience, I have learnt the four words that have allowed > me > to navigate 30 years of married bliss....'YYes Dear I'm Sorry' > > Perhaps this will help you buy some time to finish the painting?...:-) > > If not, then I guess you will have to look at this as 'delayed > gratification'...:-) > > Elecraft sure have raised the bar when it comes to 'customer service' > among > many other attributes they have notwithstanding a superb product list eh? > > Enjoy the ride mate! > > 73's > Gary > * > On 8 March 2011 06:26, stan levandowski <[hidden email]> wrote: > >> Just received email notice that it has shipped already!
