Am I correct in gathering that the PR6 is a RECEIVE-ONLY preamp (i.e.
that it can't be used with the same antenna/feed line as the TX? (vide p. 3 manual). If so, I would be much more interested in a good low-noise GaAsFET antenna-mounted (weatherproof) preamp with T/R switching (I would be using it with my K3/100), and would gladly receive info about availability of same. Then when you add an amplifier, it will still work great and you won't blow it up! GL and VY 73, Lance -- Lance Collister, W7GJ (ex: WN3GPL, WA3GPL, WA1JXN, WA1JXN/C6A, ZF2OC/ZF8, E51SIX) P.O. John,
Yes, the PR6 can be used on the K3 with a single TX/RX antenna - if the KXV3 option is installed in the K3. The PR6 is easy to place in the RX only path if the KXV3 is installed. The KXV3 option has RX ANT OUT and RX ANT IN connectors - the PR6 is normally placed between those two connectors which places in in the receive path, but not the transmit path. So yes, in that case it can be used with a single TX/RX feedline connected to the normal antenna connector(s). See the K3PR6 Manual which you can download from the Elecraft website. 73, Don W3FPR John Ragle wrote: > Am I correct in gathering that the PR6 is a RECEIVE-ONLY preamp (i.e. > that it can't be used with the same antenna/feed line as the TX? SO, for example, I use my SteppIR antenna for Tx and Rx on 6m, and the PR6 is in the path on Rx and out of the path on Tx. 73, Lyle KK7P ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

Just to clarify, I believe a KXV3/3A is required in addition to the PR6 for Lyle's description to work. The PR6 is enabled by RX ANT (on 6m only) and switched out of the circuit when ANT1 or ANT2 is enabled on the HF bands. |

It works well, BUT -- I had to send it back three times because the GasFET blew due to TX power (and I was running 100W). The last fix worked. Don't know what they did. I'll echo what Bill, W5WVO said on the effect of the preamp. If you live in a quiet location, it makes at least a 3dB difference in hearing weak signals, maybe more. If you've got a lot of local noise, all you'll do is amplify the noise. My QTH is pretty quiet in most directions most of the time. 73, Jim K9YC ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |
