George,
Perhaps I can help - do you want to tackle the KIO2 problem or the KSB2 problem first? They are 2 seaparate problems, so best not to mix them, it will only cause confusion. 73, Don W3FPR > -----Original Message----- > While working on the ki02 the k2 transmitted on its own and smoked > something on the ssb board, now I only hear a tone when I transmit with > the mic. > I pulled the board and cw works ok. Are you by any chance now in CW mode? Just a guess. If you are in CW instead
of SSB mode, keying the mic will produce CW sidetone. Hi all,
K2 5037 is almost alive. I have competed the main CW only build and all is well. First contact was an R4 station in Antarctica on 30 meters. Then worked an OH2 in Finland just yesterday on 40 meters. This is a full blown build for a DX friend of mine with all of the bells and whistles. KPA100, K2IO, SSB, 160M and filters. I have finished the SSB board. And for some reason I have bugs in most of the sections and options so far. I have corrected the minor issues with the main K2 and now need help with the SSB board. Should be an easy one and I am sure that it will be a bone head mistake on my part. I plug in the SSB board, rig powers up and all looks well. Elecraft message, no info codes. But the front panel is locked and I cannot get any of the menu or other buttons working at all. I have rechecked all of the components, soldering and so on. I had a similar problem when first checking the control board and front panel together that ended up being a bad MCU. I am pretty confident that the firmaware chip on the SSB board is ok and am also pretty sure that I am missing a key control line connection somewhere. K2 still works just fine with the SSB out.
