Hello Elecraft,
I am trying to assemble the tilt stand piece. The problem is the metal stand piece doesn't fit even when the second oval foot is out. Is it the wrong size, uncertain how to proceed. -- Best regards, Foxjazz mailto:[hidden email] ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |
The easy way to compress the bail so you can put the two front feet on
is to use a belt or band clamp. Available at your local Lowes or Home Depot, it's a belt with rachet that's used to hold irregular-shaped objects ... while glue dries. Cinch up the belt just enough so that the two feet can be bolted on. I use this method when I build K2s ... works for me. Cheers, Alan D. A significant amount of pressure is needed to squeeze it between the two feet. That tension results in a significant snap when it is opened or closed. The bail is supposed to be tight, and that makes it difficult to
install. It is unlikely you can do it with finger compression alone. I use a small woodworking clamp when I install one, but the band clamp suggestion made earlier is even better - the large pads on the woodworking clamp are difficult to work around. Whatever you do, work safely - a compressed spring can be a dangerous thing until it is fully secured, make certain it stays in the clamping mechanism until you are finished. There *is* a way to mount the bail without using a clamp (and it is safer). Attach the first foot, and then temporarily use the longer (black) 4-40 screws that will eventually be used for mounting the PA transistors. You can insert those screws at an angle enough to start a nut on them (forget the lockwasher for now. Once you get these two long screws started onto the nuts, begin to tighten them (they will pull up straight and compress the bail at the same time. Now remove the long screws - one at a time - and replace them with the proper screws, lockwashers and nuts. BTW - do you have a name and a callsign? If so, please share with the rest of the reflector group. 73, Don W3FPR Foxjazz wrote: > Hello Elecraft, > > I am trying to assemble the tilt stand piece.
