This may sound like a stupid question to experienced K3 users, but I'm
in the "About to send in my order" stage of being familiar with the radio. I've read the manual but may have missed this point. Specifically, on the K3, does mode selection control maximum receive bandwidth? For example, can I tune through a quiet 10 CW band with a 2.8 KHz filter enabled, but in CW mode and ready to transmit? Or, because I have selected CW mode, and have i.e., a 400 Hz filter installed, am I limited to a 400 Hz wide window on the band? 73, Blair k3yd _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Blair, you control the bandwidth with the width knob to the left of the main tuning knob. You can have the width as narrow as you like or as wide as your widest filter while in the CW transmit mode. If you really tune 10 meters, look for me. I will hang around 28050 a lot when I recover from Hurricane Ike and get my SteppIR back up.

You select which filters you have installed and to which modes you wish them to apply. 73, Lyle KK7P _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. The two widest filters in my K3 are a 2.8K and a 6K AM filter. The widest
bandwidth I seem to be able to select for CW mode is 2.8K, not 6K. I checked which boxes are selected in the filters section of the Elecraft utility and I have the 6K CW enable box checked. I've noticed this before and have always wondered why there seems to be this limitation.
