Hello, Anybody knows about how to increase the max. frequency on the ngen white noise generator. There are other amplifier ships available which reach up to 8Ghz. Does changing the chip to a better one increase the max. frequency. Thomas,
I don't know the design details, but I have a good suspicion that the top frequency limit of the MAR-1 MMIC amplifier exceeds the noise characteristic of the noise generating diode (D2) and the circuit board layout limitations. For more information on calibrated noise sources, take a look at the 2005 ARRL Handbook starting on page 25-27, there is one design there that may go as high as 2.5 GHz with critical construction techniques and using chip resistors and capacitors. 73, Don W3FPR > -----Original Message----- > > Anybody knows about how to increase the max. frequency on the > ngen white noise generator. Hi Thomas,
I designed the nGen for Elecraft and will try and answer your question. The high frequency output is limited primarily by the use of thru-hole components and layout. It actually produces significant noise output well past 1 gHz but gradually rolls off from the rated 500 MHz. Changing the mmic alone is unlikely to significantly improve the high frequency response. 73, Bob, N6CM ----- Original Message ----- From: "Thomas Herold" <[hidden email]> To: <[hidden email]> Sent: Monday, March 07, 2005 11:50 AM Subject: [Elecraft] ngen White Noise Generator > > Hello, > > Anybody knows about how to increase the max. frequency on the ngen white > noise generator.
