on PSK the ALC bar setting is no longer stable -- ideas why?

jsdroyster
Hello to all!  Our KX3 that Larry uses for PSK has mysteriously developed an unstable ALC bar setting.
If we use the mic gain to set it for 4 bars while transmitting, then on the next transmission, without our having touched any controls, it goes back up to 6 or 7 bars.
Any ideas what could have changed to make this happen?
We must have inadvertently changed something but I don't know what.
THANKS!
Julie KT4JR and Larry K4MWE

Julie,

Check to be certain Compression is set to zero.
If it was not set to zero, you should also re-adjust the audio level
(either with the computer soundcard level settings or the KX3 Mic Gain).

And if you're using audio driven PSK, different tones can produce different levels.

They may not be using the DATA mode; many folks
use USB for PSK31 -- but then compression can be
an issue.

Come to think of it, it would be good to know just
how they are set up -- which mode, which modem
(e.g., SignaLink usb), etc.
