Guys,
I would like to ask everybody to be a little bit considered when starting new threads on the reflector! Please use a convention which would allow for automatic sorting of the emails by the email client - it is very easy and it doesn't require much effort! For instance, please insert in the beginning of your email subject line the elecraft product which is actually the subject of the thread. Something like this: "K2 - Question about the IF amp alignment" or "K3 - shipping dates?" or "K2, K3 : Performance comparison" This will help everybody to organize hundreds of emails per day coming from this reflector. Please understand - there are many people out there that are interested only in a specific product and it is very hard to manually sort thru all of the emails. With the release of the K3 the reflector became very busy but not everybody is interested in K3 (for instance I have no interest whatsoever in the K3 but I would like to read all of the K2 posts, the XV posts, KAT/KPA, etc). If everybody is using such Subject line convention it would be very easy to setup email rules so for instance all of the emails regarding K2 are moved to the corresponding K2 folder and all of the K3 post are moved to the K3 folder or Trash folder, the XV posts will go to the XV folder, etc. I am sure everybody will benefit from a little bit more organized traffic on the refflector. Thanks in advance! 73 de Andrey, AE1Z _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. I seem to remember Eric asking this very same thing only a few days
ago. The problem is it is not a normal thing to do and people are fallible - they just don't remember until after they've hit the Send button (if then.) I don't think there is anything you can do about it. Thom and I set up Elecraft message boards at Zerobeat Forums to provide a solution to this issue - separate boards for each Elecraft product. However, it does require a critical mass of people - including those with the answers, as well as the ones with the questions - to join and participate if it is to be actually useful. The message boards are there, the rest is up to the users. -- Julian, G4ILO K2 s/n: 392 K3 s/n: ??? Maybe in the future there will be a facility to post from a web page (as
per forums) and have a drop down subject box with K1/KX1/K2/K3/whatever. In the mean time, keeping postings at a reasonable level and Elecraft related would help everyone. I feel that spreading the knowledge across several forums is counter productive as it dilutes the knowledge base. 73 Dave, G4AON _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Hmmm, you might have a point there....perhaps ARRL could send bulletins oo a single frequency, only once and using only one mode. THe advantage is that there would be only one place to find the information. 73 - Thom K3HRN Zerobeat Ham Forums: www.zerobeat.net/smf www.tlchost.net/hosting/ Web Hosting as low as 3.49/month _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Sorry...I aplogize to everybody for the QRM than (I hope it is lost in the already high noise floor caused by the "K3 shipping status" subject)...I guess I did miss it, trying to sort the 30+ emails per day coming from the reflectror just by reading the subject lines... (and I can't read all of the emails the same day btw. so if I miss just a few days than I have well over a hundred emails to soft thru - that's why I politely asked everybody to assist an automated sorting. 73, de Andrey, AE1Z _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Guys,
Julian is correct, please place [K3], [K2] etc. as the first item on your subject lines for ALL rig/product specific postings from now on. We are -extremely- busy focusing on K3 shipments etc. After the dust clears (withing the next month or so) we'll revisit the reflector/web page/forum organization issues. Of course we want to make it as easy as possible for everyone to get the information they need. :-) In the mean time, please also remember that this list is our primary method of both getting feedback from customers and for communicating with you. We occasionally look at and post to some of the other forums out there, but we can not monitor them or respond to all questions posted on those lists. We need a single place to focus on, and that's the primary reason for the current email list structure. Proliferating more parallel forums only serves to fragment the Elecraft community and to make it impossible for us to easily communicate with everyone. Lastly, we DO have a web readable version of this list that allows you to just peruse the subject lines and to click on the ones you wish to read. ( http://www.elecraft.com/elist.html ) If you wish to read the list in that manner, and still stay subscribed so you can post, just set your email options to 'no mail delivery' on your personal Elecraft list preferences page. Go to http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft and scroll to the bottom of that page. The last option asks you to enter your subscribed list email address and click on 'edit options'. Please be patient with us, we'll be working with everyone to simplify things here as soon as we can catch or breath. (You do want us to focus on getting your K3s to you, don't you? ;-) 73, Eric WA6HHQ Elecraft Julian G4ILO wrote: > I seem to remember Eric asking this very same thing only a few days > ago.
