problem identifying capacitors

oe9fwv
hi all,

I am working on the RF board, page 65 where a lot of capacitors are to do.
The first problem I had was C22 (3.3pF), which I could not find. I found a
capacitor with 2.2 on it, which I used after reading the parts list, but
now I am at C33, which should also be 2.2 but nothing around.

I have left one capacitor labeled "I2I" which is probably 121, one is
labeled only with a "I" , not sure if this is a real label or not, the
others left are not a choice. My DMM has a capacitor mode, but I don't get
reasonable values if I try to measure these capacitors.

I have one part which looks like a capacitor it is a small blue cap,
little smaller than the 470 caps, labeled with 2.7C - what is this?

How can I find out which value is the not labeled capacitor?

from the brown ceramic c's there is left:
33   4x
12   1x
I2I   1x
39  1x
68  1x
27  1x
10   1x
I (?)  1x

blue ceramic c's
2.7C 1x
and several other blue ones which are clear to me.

you are probably right, but the fact that my 2.7C is a blue cap makes me
hesitate. C22 is in the list of the brown keramic caps on the parts
list...

that's what I am also pretty sure now. I'll have to exchange it, because
it's already soldered in the place of C22.

lets see if someone from Elecraft jumps in and helps. Its time to sleep
anyway ;-)

thank you for your input!

Hi

If you will check the parts list I think you will find the 2.7 pf caps are
alternates for the 3.3. These are the blue caps marked 2.7c. You should not
use the 2.2 brown cap in this place. this is for c33.

Let me say that I HIGHLY recommend the nice little LC meter kit made by
AADE, Almost All Digital Electronics, you can build the thing in about
an hour, and it's accurate and a gas to use! 73 de Alex NS6Y.

Re: problem identifying capacitors

John Lonigro
Looking back on it, to me the biggest advantage of doing a complete
inventory before starting construction was the problem of identifying
capacitors. I remember how thankful I was that the resistors were packed
in order and wanted the same convenience with the capacitors. I laid out
several sheets of paper on a table, separated the capacitors into little
piles on the paper, then marked down the value and quantity of each
pile. Using the parts list as ground truth, if there was a discrepancy
at that point, I knew either I did something wrong in sorting (always
the case for me) or I was sent the wrong part or quantity (never the
case for me). I'll admit this took some time, especially with my
soldering station begging for attention, but once I started soldering,
it was more like running an assembly line than solving a 1000 piece
jigsaw puzzle.

At least it worked for me.

John AA0VE

Hi John,

You obviously don't have any CATS.

Mine would think that was their own personal Disney
World.

I did not pre-sort my caps, but did inventory them
and then put them back into a feline-proof
container.

K2 5150 went together without a problem.

hi all,

thanks to all for you input. I have got the email from Elecraft that they
are sending me the missing part. The support from both of you is excellent
and vy much appreciated here.
