I'd really like to see another xtal or two added to the KX1 I.F. filter....3
poles just doesn't get it...the 4 pole filter in the K1 and 5 pole filter in the K2 are noticeably better than the 3 pole filter in the KX1. 73, Joe W2KJ _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Joe,
If you can figure out how to put them inside that already crowded enclosure (and still maintain it as a kit), then yes a 4 or 5 pole filter would be nice - BUT ... 73, Don W3FPR Joseph Trombino Jr wrote: > I'd really like to see another xtal or two added to the KX1 I.F. > filter....3 poles just doesn't get it...the 4 pole filter in the K1 and > 5 pole filter in the K2 are noticeably better than the 3 pole filter in > the KX1. > > 73, Joe W2KJ _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. The K2 has seven crystals in the IF filter. There are five before the IF amplifier and two more before the product detector. Joe, The bandwidth of the two is affected by the same filter bandwidth controlling voltage, V XFIL2, on an MV209 diode. I wonder how it varies with the bandwidth of the five using 1SV149 diodes. I see also that there is a mysterious (to me, I don't see where it goes) IF out via C181 that is indeed after only the first five crystals. 73 Ian, G4ICV, AB2GR, K2 #4962 -- _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Adobe is your friend.
I did a search for c181, and found the I.F.OUT you mention. Searching for I.F.OUT, I find it goes through J6/P6 to the Control board, and then to the AGC mixer(NE602). A lot of PDFs are available that are not searchable. ALL the Elecraft PDFs
(and any I produce too) are searchable. It's the only sane way to do it, but it's certainly not the only way<g>. Thanks Dan - that's the first positive comment I've heard on the distribution of documents as PDF files. Even though they can be searched if they contain text and font information rather than a graphic image of text, I have only ever looked at a printed version if available. 73, Ian, G4ICV, AB2GR, K2 #4962 -- _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list.
