I am bringing up a new (to me) K3.
What makes the drive level track between bands without the nasty ALC overshoots? The drive from the K3 sometimes also takes a while to settle down when coming up on a new band. This drives me crazy in changing bands and modes while chasing W1AW/# stations. What to invoke to make the output of the K3 go back to 100W when the KPA is off or stby? It presently stays at the ~30W needed for 500W out. Is this a KPA or K3 issue? -- Dick - K4XU ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to [hidden email] |

Hi Dick,
If you have the "15-pin" cable that comes with the KPAK3AUX cable set, you can set the K3's CONFIG:PWR SET to PER BND and that will do what you want to do. Have a look at the intro_guide at http://www.ke7x.com/home/k-line-introduction-and-set-up-guide The slow to come up to power might be caused by how you have your ALC set up. It is not used to control power. While still in that menu, the "1" key locks/unlocks the Power knob, and it notices whether the KPA500 is in Operate, or not. I set my K3 to be 100W on each band when KPA500 is not in Operate, and the appropriate level to drive the KPA500 when it is in operate. This is adequate for normal operations, but I do wish that the Tune button would still function, even when ATU is in Bypass mode. -John AC6SL ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to [hidden email] |

Others have answered the power-per-band issue. If you are seeing power overshoot from the K3 then you should do a recalibration of the K3 power.
