swr/rf : comp/alc

Reginald J Mackey SR-3
I have experimented with meter setting this morning after reading something about it on the list.
If I tap the keyer/mic button it just changes between the modes, pwr, wpm, and mic. the meter does not change state,
If i tap the mic and adjust mic, then the meter changes to comp/alc as long as I am making adjustments.  When adjustments
are done, the meter auto reverts back to swr/rf.  It will not remain on comp/alc.

Is that correct?

Reggie,

I do believe that is correct.  There is really no need to have comp/alc
displayed unless you are adjusting the mic level.
OTOH, SWR/RF gives you an indication that "all is well" when transmitting.

Re: swr/rf : comp/alc

When using sound card modes, I like to make sure that my
computer and all the chain of cables/devices etc. to the K3
haven't decided to adjust the levels when I wasn't paying
attention. I'm always switching back and fourth between the
displays since Don's point about SWR/RF is also correct.

Your radio is clearly broken and probably beyond repair. I'm so sorry. Send it to me. I can't pay you much for it, but I'll struggle to use it as is

:)
