what can you do with a pair of K3s?

DOUGLAS ZWIEBEL
Any ability to sync two (instead of sync'ing the subrx option...if you
don't get the sub-rx)?

FWIW my current beta of Ham Radio Deluxe connects to any number of radios
and you can sync them all - this is just a software solution however and is
only available for Windows. Myself I ordered a K3 with second RX.

So with HRD you can sync your IC-7800, FTDX-9000, K3+K3 and TS-2000.

RE: what can you do with a pair of K3s? Now Forums???

Gregg R. Lengling
Wayne and Eric,

Here's an offer you can't refuse.....Simon Brown has offered website space,
I am offering all the work and administration, all you need to do is buy the
license for vBulletin software, and we'll create a great forum setup like
the one I admin for Ham Radio Deluxe and Milwaukee HDTV.

Email me direct and I'll tell you all the in's and out's.  It is a much more
manageable and timely way to handle support than "remailer lists".

Cheers,

There are some folks who simply prefer email lists over web-based forums.

I ended up having both a web based forum and a mailing list for the
Drakelist....and while both are active communties, there are many on the email
list who don't do the forum thing and vice versa.

One of the reasons that so many folks use services like yahoo groups is that one
can participate via the web, email or both.

PLEASE stick with the e-mail list.
A few years ago I built a K2 with all the trimmings, with a web baste
forum at around that time I would have stopped checking in daily (and
missed out on any number of good topics) With E-mail lists at all

Forums have a great search engine and you can search for answers that have
been posted before.  We have years of history on the HRD site.

FWIW I was losing the plot with only the mailing list. I still have the
Yahoo! mailing list but the forums are where I provide support for my users,
also there is a small key group of supporters which regularly help the
bewildered.

With potential Elecraft forums you can subscribe so that you only get the K3
postings, myself I am not a K2 owner. You can create forums restricted to
your beta testers (something I do a lot). Users can post and attach pictures
or logfiles. In general forums become a great self-help facility.

I still use the Yahoo! forums for kit announcements just like Saturday
morning's great K3 news.

Take a look - you do not need to register or part with any $ -

You can usually subscribe to forums so that you receive all postings via
email.

FWIW I read the Flex Radio mailing list but not the forums.

I think the best solution is one where both forum users and email users receive
the same information...that's what the Yahoo Groups model does...and there are
the benefits of being able to post files for download, etc.

I'm not sure if Google Groups has similar structure.

I am still searching for something that will let me port the majordomo messages
to the forum and vice versa....so I don't have the luxuary that the combo model
afford.

It's not broken. Don't try to fix it by adding a layer of slow servers.
Nothing on the web, no matter how well done, is as fast as a local email
client. Web forum software is annoying for many other reasons, too.

I have seen an example of doing that without having to deal with
Yahoo or Google.  I think it was the Ubuntu Linux forum <http://
www.ubuntuforums.org>, but don't know how they routed between the two
venues.

Guys,

I'm getting ready to head home from Visalia. Wow! What an email
response! I'm flooded with emails this morning. I will take some time to
read all of them later today & tonight.

Thank you for the generous offer, but we do not want to split the list
right now. We want to keep things focused right here, and to be honest
we do not have the time to be involved in or even read multiple Elecraft
lists.

I'll post more on this topic and the many others after I get back to
Aptos, digest all the email, get the K3 web page up etc. :-)  Not much
sleep tonight!

Congratulations Elecraft on the new rig. If the close in RX numbers are
as good as I've been surmising, equal to or better than the TT Orion II,
you will have a hot seller.

IMHO "Forums" like Simon's and others are they way to go.

If you have a K2 support question you post it in the K2 section of the
forums, ditto KX1, K1, K3, KPA800, etc.... The computer enthusiast
community, both hardware and software, have been using forums instead of
mail lists for years.

not in stead of mailing lists. As well as mailing lists would be more
accurate. I am a member of a lot more IT related mailing lists than
forums.
I for one have a very strong preference for mailing lists

Hi Doug,

To synch two K3s together (or control two of them simultaneously in any
way) will require a computer with two RS232 or USB ports, one per K3. I
believe some ham control software already supports this.

Over coming months we'll be adding many remote-control commands to the
K3 to facilitate very sophisticated control applications.
