wobbly knob

Brian Mury-3
My K2 AF gain knob is getting really wobbly, and seems to be getting
worse. I pulled the knob off and took a look. The plastic shaft on the
pot is getting loose where it fits into the metal body of the pot. Looks
like I'll need a new pot.

I just built the K2 this summer, so it's still quite new. Is this a
common affliction?

I think you pushed too strong on the plastic knob when you installed
it. You could read in the manual the we must not push to hard to break
it.... You must change the POT. I ordered a few last summer... just in
case... because I broke one that way.

Yeah, same here. And the power pot is a little wobbly too -- I guess
because these two are the most used (for me). My radio is about 13
months old.

Think I am too lazy to actually fix it until it breaks, but maybe
worth ordering a replacement or two to have on hand when it does...

My knobs aren't that tight a fit - they slid on quite easily. Also, this
didn't start until a few months later, and has been getting gradually
worse. I don't think I broke it during installation - it seems to be
wearing out prematurely.

My 4 and half year old K2's pot is in perfect condition...maybe they
changed their source?

Ciao,

I got some nylon washers at the hardware store that fit the shafts and are about
the size of the knobs.  They keep the shafts from wobbling and possibly damaging
the pots, and are hidden by the knobs.
