I find the array of national flags amusing, since he won't accept a non-US
delivery address. Investing in futures is a way to make or lose a lot of money. But I have to say, K3's look like a good investment to me, unless, of course, the price drops with volume production. And note that built K2's sell for less than the kits. It's a different situation, home built vs factory, but still.... 73, doug _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. I guess that he ordered a few K3s to make a profit on them while Elecraft catches up. Some folks must be willing to pay a premium for not having to wait. The law of Supply and Demand is applied here, although, in my opinion, it's sure not, in the spirit of ham radio. I know I wouldn't do it, nor would I bid on it. It's the same thing as ticket scalping, even though that is illegal in some places. Free enterprise is just that, free to do whatever is legal.
The listing on ebay mentions the reserve price at that of an assembled kit due to sales tax, shipping and "other" fees. $80 or so for shipping and other fees from Aptos, California to Carlsbad, California? Other "sealed Elecraft K3 items" in future auctions are also mentioned. I won't be bidding on those either. I would hope that no one would bid on them but that won't happen. 73, Dave N8AG ____________________________________________________________________________________ Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Yahoo! Can't agree with you more Dave,
I am into telescopes as well as ham radio, and there is a high end manufacturer of telescopes named Astro-Physics (www.astro-physics.com) They have a waiting list that goes for 3 to 4 years! Anyway, their policy is if they catch someone doing the "scalp thing" the person is blacklisted and is not allowed to purchase any more items from the company. I think Elecraft should follow suit. I'll tell you what's not in the spirit of amateur
radio Dave, and that's likening a fellow ham that you don't even know to a "ticket scalper" in public because you "guess that he ordered a few K3s to make a profit". Do you know that? DonÂ’t think so because it isnÂ’t true. There are hundreds or thousands of ham radios on ebay at any given time and you of course are welcome to your opinion about this subject and ebay as much as anyone, but postings like this in one public is pretty bad juju. I was apprehensive when I ordered the gear, not because I was afraid of losing on it, but because I was doing it to have some fun while I waited for my own K3, a diversion like the wiki I created, and was afraid that someone might characterize me negatively about it. Rest assured there is not enough money that I could make on an auction (my last one occurred in 1999) to compromise my good name. So please, lighten up, it's not a body part I'm selling, it's a radio. Or don't lighten up, but keeping opinions that are based on conjecture in private is most often the best policy - IMO. de wb8yqj [Elecraft] RE: K3 at Auction Dave Agsten w4txs at yahoo.com Sun Apr 27 17:38:08 EDT 2008 I guess that he ordered a few K3s to make a profit on them while Elecraft catches up. Capitalists and Comrades:
Methinks it's time for some folks to reaquaint themselves with the List Guidlines, specifically, #5: 5. Please keep all postings cordial. Please restrain the urge to email someone admonishing them about a posting. The last thing we want to do is to scare anyone off the list. Overly aggressive postings and negative comments about other posters only serves to scare away new potential list members. Waiting over night before hitting 'send' really helps to put things in perspective.. I may put my (K3) #605 up for sale if they don't get the bugs out and the features in. If I do, I'll take bids and see how much I can make above what I paid for it. ------------------------- The premium folks are willing to pay (yes, they're willing to pay it) is a temporary thing. Once Elecraft gets them in stock, the "good times" will be over. If you want to sell you K3 quickly at a profit, then get 'er up on e-bay sooner than later. K2's are the same. They used to command a premium on e-bay and were few & far between. Now that the K3 is being delivered, there are a bunch of K2s on e-bay and prices have dropped (become more typical of used gear). - Keith N1AS - - K3 711 - - K5 5411 SOLD - _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. The current subject of having the ability to turn the display on/off while operating remote could be solved another way.
I would prefer to be able to turn the rig on/off with a software command. Not sure if this is a possible modification or not. Is the power switch a soft switch or is it a hard switch? You can turn the K3 off with a software command. To turn it on, you need to manipulate the level of one of the AUX I/O pins (the 15-pin connector on the back of the rig). That could be done by an external device of some sort.

Page 1 of the Programmer's Reference perhaps...? Command PS (Power-on/off control) would seem to fit the bill.
