Good grief. Sounds like another misdirected post to a devotional list.

Don't know if my PM got through, but to make it official - the CW-to-data bug with the internal keyer is still in this beta. I didn't see anything in the release notes about it, tho, so I figured it's still on the ToDo list....

Hello,

Hi Brian,
I'm not sure if you are speaking of the Manual or Auto Notch. After reading your post I decided to check out the Manual Notch I used the spectrum display portion of EasyPal (SSTV program). The observed 'Valley of the Notch' seems to be in the realm of 400 to 500 Hz in width on both CW and SSB for the Manual Notch. 73, Dick - KA5KKT ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------ Am I imagining things? There is a newer K3 Utility version available in the ftp.elecraft.com\P3
folder that is being tested by our P3 Field Test team. I've asked to have it published to our Elecraft K3 software web page, but the last few days have been very hectic in Watsonville; they're busy getting the backlog of P3s out the door. The new beta K3 firmware was packaged with an updated K3UtilityVersionInfo.txt file that causes the message about a newer K3 Utility version being available. Sometimes we have to guess what order things will go out, and this time I guessed wrong. Your current K3 Utility will do what it's supposed to do with the new firmware. Or you can install a newer one from the ftp site. 73 de Dick, K6KR -----Original Message----- From: [hidden email] [mailto:[hidden email]] On Behalf Of John Merrill Sent: Tuesday, August 03, 2010 12:45 PM To: elecraft Subject: Re: [Elecraft] K3 Production Firmware Rev. 4.05: Support for P3 Panadapter What is the latest Utility version for Windows? Hi,
The FTP site is a little confusing. I can't find the usual zip file for 4.05. I find a zip for 4.03 and it looks like if I download that and replace hmcu403.hex with hmcu405.hex and the release notes file, I should be all set? All the other files are unchanged from 4.03? It's much easier if each new release has a complete zip file. I also found and downloaded the install for utility 1.3.7.26. AB2TC - Knut

Knut-
4.05 has been designated a regular production release. You do not use the FTP method for regular production releases, only for beta releases. Just start K3UTIL, and check the box that says "Copy new files from Elecraft into local folder". Then click the button that says "Check Versions Now". It should recognize the new firmware and download it. You can then load it into your K3. Hi,
OK, that will work for me. I like to be in charge of what I download and where I put it so I don't like to use the utility's automatic update feature. I have a subfolder for every version I have ever downloaded from Elecraft, each with a shortcut to the utility. It would be nice if Elecraft would provide a zip file with all the necessary files, whether it's a beta or not. But I am OK for now. AB2TC - Knut

Knut,
I like to keep all my versions separate also. Later versions of the utility will create a directory for you. In the "Local folder for Firmware" box, just type it in, or browse to your location, then add the \dirname. After the first time, all you have to change is the dirname. You still have to check the "Copy new files" checkbox, and hit the "Check version now" button, to do the download, THEN hit the "Send checked items to K3" button to do the actual load You are just as much in charge this way, it just hides the somewhat convoluted nav on the Elecraft web site. 73, Mike NF4L. K3 beta-test firmware revision 4.14 is now available. The most
important change is to the behavior of the A/B and REV switches when the K3 is used with a P3. (See release notes below.) You'll also need to install revision 0.36 or later of P3 firmware, if you haven't already. Please send any questions to [hidden email]. For instructions on how to load beta firmware, see: http://www.elecraft.com/K3/k3_software.htm 73, Wayne N6KR * * * MCU 4.14 / DSP 2.60 / FPF 1.13, 10-6-2010 * P3 UPDATED CORRECTLY ON K3 "A/B" SWITCH PRESS. * P3 FUNCTIONS CORRECTLY AFTER "REV" SWITCH PRESS: Previously, holding REV at the K3 would cause the P3 to stop tracking K3 VFO movement. Note: At present, holding REV does not result in any change in the P3 display. This will be changed in a future revision of K3 firmware. * BN REMOTE CONTROL COMMAND (BAND CHANGE): This command now changes bands more quickly. ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

K3 beta-test firmware revision 4.17 (with DSP rev. 2.65) is now
available. This release includes our new APF (audio peaking filter) for CW mode, which has been helping K3 field testers work "extreme" weak DX for the past several days. For voice modes, there's a "Fast Monitor" option (TX voice monitor without the processing delay). Also included is a much-improved TX Noise Gate. See detailed release notes below. Please send any questions to [hidden email]. For instructions on how to load beta firmware, see: http://www.elecraft.com/K3/k3_software.htm 73, Wayne N6KR * * * MCU 4.17 / DSP 2.65 / FPF 1.14, 11-2-2010 NOTE: Be sure to install all firmware files for this release, including FPF 1.14. Otherwise your menu text will be incorrect. * APF (AUDIO PEAKING FILTER) ADDED: APF provides enhanced copy of weak signals in CW mode, and is especially useful when signals are at the noise level. The K3’s APF is patterned after the most successful analog APF implementations, and is equally effective in user tests. To use APF, make sure CONFIG:DUAL PB is set to APF. (This is the default. “NOR” restores the original DUAL PB function.) Then hold DUAL PB to turn APF on/off. A special DSP graphic display is used to show that APF is in effect. At the time APF is activated, the regular I.F. SHIFT setting, if any, is “frozen,” and SHIFT then controls the center pitch of the APF filter in 10-Hz steps. APF is independent for the main and sub receivers, as well as for presets I and II. Switching between these two presets is a convenient way of turning APF on/off quickly. * ADDED VOICE TX “FAST MONITOR”: Normally the voice monitor includes a ~20-ms delay, which is necessary to hear how your on-air signal will sound (with compression, etc.). If you prefer to not hear any delay in the voice monitor, set CONFIG:TX MON to FAST. Note: You’ll still hear the delayed and processed monitor if you adjust the MIC, CMP, TX EQ or TX GATE settings while transmitting. * TX NOISE GATE IMPROVEMENT: The Noise Gate/Downward Expander for voice modes has smoother response and much improved performance near the threshold. * NARROW AF FILTER IMPROVEMENT: Adjusting SHIFT and WIDTH when using very narrow DSP filters no longer causes ‘pop’ artifacts. ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

The APF is fantastic. This is the best enhancement to the K3's receiver ever. The APF performance puts the K3 ahead of every other radio on CW receive. There is just no comparison. Anyone not using a K3 with the APF will be at a huge disadvantage in a contest. The APF is scary with its potential. This is the first time that a DSP ënhancement has impressed me. 73 John --- On Wed, 11/3/10, Wayne Burdick <[hidden email]> wrote: > From: Wayne Burdick <[hidden email]> > Subject: [Elecraft] K3 Beta Release: APF for CW; "Fast Monitor" & improved TX gate for voice modes > To: "Elecraft Reflector" <[hidden email]>, [hidden email], [hidden email] > Date: Wednesday, November 3, 2010, 1:05 PM > K3 beta-test firmware revision 4.17 > (with DSP rev. 2.65) is now > available.
