I have K3 s/n 1826 that I love. I just installed a KXV3 (not KXV3A) I/F
adapter. The problem is that when I try to do the Milliwatt TX Gain Calibration procedure, I get errors. I connected a dummy load to the XVTR jack and put the KXV3 into TEST mode. The procedure looks fine on 160 M, yielding 1.00 mW. The other bands give low or 0.00 readings and return the TXG error. Am I doing something wrong? Should I have clipped the W1 and W2 jumpers on the RF PCB? Thanks for your help. 73, Phil, NS7P ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

Phil,
Yes, you should have clipped those jumpers. If they are not clipped the results will be as you describe (guess how I know). 73, Don W3FPR On 12/27/2010 6:23 PM, Phillip Shepard wrote: > I have K3 s/n 1826 that I love. We had a difficult net today. Propagation didn't seem that great, and we
were bothered quite a bit by QRM from 14.313 MHz. After a few minutes, we QSYed to 14.315 MHz to get away from the QRM, but it was still a problem. As it was, we had 15 participants over a 20 minute period. Thanks to everyone who checked in. Ken, KO5Y, in NM will be the NCS next week. Happy New Year. Hi,
Isn't it time to try to find a new frequency? I always have QRM from *both* 14313 and 14316. There are always politicos on 14313. In one of the earliest nets, it was moved to 14310 which was very good here. AB2TC - Knut

Propagation seemed poor in AZ. Usually Phil is 59 and I couldn't hear him hardly at all. Relay stations and most others were not too strong either so I didn't check in.

The net got off to a slow start due to the terrible QRM from 14.313 and the
refuse taking over that frequency today. Rather than fight it, we moved to 14.316 MHz and were much better off. We'll see how the situation is next week and see if we need to move again. Propagation was OK, and we had three DX check-ins (DK1, EI6 and ZL1). We were also bothered a bit by pulsed QRM of some kind but worked through it. Well, we started the net on 14.314 (our usual frequency). We quickly drew
heavy QRM, with harangues to get off of "their" frequency. I got about 8 of our stronger stations checked in, but the situation was deteriorating quickly. I looked up band, found quiet at 14.317 and took the net there. After a minute of being told to stay there and not come back to their frequency, we were left alone. It went well after that and we had 37 participants over the total 30 minutes. I think finding a new frequency is the best course of action - maybe in the 14.316 to 14.320 area. It seems to be strongest somewhere in the Tri-state. I auto-notched it then tried to filter it out with no luck (notch helps but its still very distinct). Another note, I don't know about everyone else but 20m at 2PM EDT (1800z) yesterday was very very noisy. -aps ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

I had intentions of checking it Sunday and monitored the preceding
net, but was called to breakfast about 30-min before net time (10am local). I got reading the newspaper and missed the net. I had an interesting contact earlier on 20m with W6SMJ/mobile south of Visalia, CA coming from the DX Conference. He could hear my 16w fairly well though QRM finally drown me out (I supposed it was all those guys with new KPA-500 tuning up!). Conditions seemed real good at that time. I use a Hygain TH3mk4 triband yagi at 50 feet. 73, Ed - KL7UW, WD2XSH/45 ====================================== BP40IQ 500 KHz - 10-GHz www.kl7uw.com EME: 144-1.4kw, 432-100w, 1296-testing*, 3400-winter? We switched to a new frequency this week - 14.3035 MHz. It seemed to work
out, so we'll try it again next week at the same spot. The turn-out was modest this week, 23 participants. The only discussions were audio checks and a request for feedback on the KPA500 (nobody on frequency had one yet). The northeast US was light, and all rigs were K3s this week. Here is the list of participants.
